She was envious of Xixi at first for gaining many brothers. Yet now, it was awful for Song Wenye to watch the brothers fight over Xixi.
The snow had stopped falling by the time the sun was up. Although the snow that built upon the road had been cleared by a snowplow, it was still an icy road.
Ruan Sisi waited in the car outside while Shen Xi went alone into the café.
Having booked an elegant private dining room, Zhou Zhen waited for Shen Xi inside. She seemed a little reserved when Shen Xi walked in. Zhou Zhen uttered with a smile, "Hello, Ms. Cai Ni."
Zhou Zhen still addressed Shen Xi as Ms. Cai Ni.
Shen Xi nodded in return before taking a seat across from Zhou Zhen. Shen Xi went straight to the point. "Tell me why you want to see me."
Bearing a bittersweet look, Zhou Zhen forced a smile. "Ms. Cai Ni, I want to ask you for someone. I hope you can fulfill my wish."
Shen Xi was curious. "Tell me."
"I want Li Jingran." Zhou Zhen might not have any feelings for the Su family, but something stirred inside her when she saw loony Li Jingran. Perhaps it was the godd*mn kinship in the works. It made Zhou Zhen sick to the stomach, yet she had to accept the fact. "Li Jingran has gone nuts. She's delirious to recognize anyone and that's probably how she'd be for the rest of her life. I can promise that she won't do anything to harm you."
Shen Xi calmly stared at Zhou Zhen without a word, waiting for the latter to carry on.
"It's ridiculous, really. I don't know why I have sympathy for someone like her. I just look at her and think how sad and pitiful she is. I don't want to see her locked up in the mental hospital for the rest of her life." Zhou Zhen took a deep breath and let out a self-deprecating smile. She then withdrew from her emotions and looked Shen Xi in the eye. "Mr. Fu saved my life. He told me to get your opinion on this."
The Su family was either dead or deranged. As of this morning, Su Mushi had died in intensive care. Li Jingran was the only one alive in the Su family. Oh, Zhou Zhen was probably counted as one of the Su family members now.
The situation was not looking good for Li Jingran. Whoever she met, Li Jingran would call them Sister and kowtow to apologize. Zhou Zhen knew that Li Jingran was talking about Yuan Heng, the mother of her half-brother, Yuan Heng. Su Yi and Li Jingran were accomplices in taking Yuan Heng's life.
"You can keep her if that's what you want." Shen Xi had no interest in any further arrangement for Li Jingran. Since the woman was already mad and for all Shen Xi cared, she could proceed as she saw fit.
It was best for Li Jingran to stay insane as death would come looking for her should one day she regains sanity.
"Thank you." Zhou Zhen expressed her gratitude. With Shen Xi getting up to leave, she stood up and bowed. "Please help me thank Mr. Fu."
Shen Xi stopped short and looked back at Zhou Zhen. "Perhaps you should ask Yuan Yu about it."
She had too many brothers right now so people might not know which brother she was talking about. It seemed she needed to sort out the form of address to avoid confusion.
"I've met Yuan Yu." Zhou Zhen gazed at her. "Yuan Yu has seen Li Jingran. He said he's done with the Su family and told me to figure it out on my own."
"Okay." Giving a nod, Shen Xi took off.
Shen Xi wanted to have nothing to do with the Su family now, but Fu Qingli would likely still have eyes on Li Jingran to be on the safe side. At least, there would not be any fun surprises.
Granny Yu and Shen Zhanglin's family dropped by the house in the afternoon. Even Yu Qiubai came bearing gifts to give his regards just before lunch.
Shen Zhanglin and Du Juan appeared to be happy and fond of Yu Yuanxi.
By the way Du Juan was looking at Yu Qiubai, she found him to be a prospective son-in-law.
Shen Xi learned of Yu Qiubai's kind gestures from Du Juan. The guy sure pulled all the stops to brown-nose the family. He often helped out at the restaurant and sometimes together with Shen Tang too.
The regular customers of the restaurant would praise him in front of Du Juan, saying Yu Qiubai was handsome, deft, and polite. They thought of him as Shen Zhanglin and Du Juan's future son-in-law.
Having the mind of the older generation, Shen Zhanglin only wanted a good man for his daughter. Since Shen Tang was at the dating and marrying age while Yu Qiubai fit the bill of a son-in-law, Shen Zhanglin gave his blessing.
Shen Xi believed Shen Feng would be the toughest to get through to. However, God knows what the d*mn fox, Yu Qiubai did for Shen Feng to play nice and hang out with Yu Qiubai like brothers. Shen Feng was nearly at the point of calling Yu Qiubai his brother-in-law.
Shen Zhangqing and Yun Jinping always had a good impression of Yu Qiubai. Following Du Juan's quiet exchange with Shen Zhangqing, the couple believed it was only a matter of time before Yu Qiubai and Shen Tang tie the knot.
Shen Xi sighed to herself when she caught wind of the elders' attitude. Never mind. She had to admit that Yu Qiubai made a good choice if Shen Tang liked him too. Shen Xi drew near to Shen Feng and whispered, "How did Yu Qiubai buy you off?"
Shen Feng spoke in hushed tones, "No one bought me. He's a nice guy."
Shen Xi replied, "How is he nice?"
Shen Feng answered, "He follows my sister in secret every day and walks her home."
Shen Xi retorted, "That's called a stalking pervert."
Shen Tang said, "My sister knows, and he knows my sister knows."
Why bother stalking then? Yu Qiubai might as well outrightly walk her home. Shen Xi inquired, "And?"
Shen Feng sighed. "My sister likes him."
This reason alone triumphed over everything else. His sister might not admit it or give in to Yu Qiubai, but Shen Feng knew that she took a liking to Yu Qiubai. Otherwise, his sister would have turned Yu Qiubai down long ago.
Yu Qiubai was a good guy, but he was a little young. He was younger than Shen Feng by a year too. Shen Feng found it awkward to call someone younger his brother-in-law.
"Fine." Shen Xi gave up. Her only wish more than anything was for Shen Tang to live happily ever after in this life.
"Let's not talk about my sister but you. Yours is the head of the Li family. Can you handle him?" Shen Feng had heard the chilling rumors.
Although the person was friendly in real life, there must be some truth to the rumors. The whole family would go after Li Yuan if he ever lay a finger on Shen Xi!
Come to think of it, the Shen family had no reason to fear Li Yuan as the Fu family had joined the alliance. The Fu family could take Li Yuan down. Fu Qingli, in particular, was a force to be reckoned with.
