Chapter 1: Fate Changed!

Chapter 1: Fate Changed!

- Knock Knock!

The sound of a wooden door being knocked echoed within the room, after which a high pitched voice, seemingly from a lady in her 40s could be heard calling out.

"Young man, time to wake up! Help your mother here to collect some firewood today!"

After the voice called out, the person whom was sleeping soundly under the blanket began to jolt slightly amidst the faintly lit room, where lights could be seen penetrating through the tiny holes of the wooden wall.

Furthermore, coupled with the swaying of the translucent white curtain that appears to be ever so enchanting from the cool breeze outside that entered the room through a half-opened window, created an image of a very comfortable and blissful bedroom.

In fact, if one were to enter the room, they could even find their eyes to suddenly droop heavily as if they were about to fall asleep!

This room is extremely neat, tidy and minimalistic in nature. The number of furniture consisted only of a single bookshelf which housed some books on it, a study table by the window, a wooden chair draped over with the leather of a deer and a single large comfortable bed.

In addition, this bed has many layers of sheathings to it that seems to be filled with either cottons or feathers, surrounded by many pillows around it, and of course, a blanket that is as smooth as a silk draping over the figure beneath it.

The figure yawned slightly as it slowly rose up into a seating position while raising both arms into the air in the form of a morning stretch. Turning his head towards the window, a pair of eyes that is as clear as a lake could be seen reflected from the face of this man. His expression aloof, he slowly moved his legs down and pressed it onto the floor as he stood up from the bed.

"Another new day..." he mumbled to himself as he reached for his clothes hanged on the wall.

The door of the room was slowly pushed open with a 'creaking' sound as the young man stepped out. Moving a little bit sluggishly while wiping one eye with one hand and his other hand tucked closely inside his clothes, he let out another yawn.

"Finally up eh? You sure know how to sleep..." frowned his mother while sighing helplessly by the kitchen.

Her name is Meng Yue and is the mother of this young man. With a height of only about 145 centimetres and a twin ponytail hairstyle, she was often nicknamed as the 'chiby mother' by the villagers.

She then continued, "Go and wash up your face and happy 21st birthday by the way! Now go and collect some firewood!" while giving both a wink and a cute smile as both of her hands on her waist.

"Okay mother..." he replied awkwardly.

Although the lady in front of him is his mother, he couldn't help but to feel fiddly sometimes when his mother teases him as such.

The thoughts that this mother of his was not his mother by blood would often ran across him, but he quickly dismissed them as instantly as it appeared in his mind.

After all, he knew that his mother had always taken care of him since he was a child. Once, he even took a tour around the village to ask the folks and they could confirm that it is as so. His curiosity towards this subject couldn't be helped. For he was 185 centimetres tall!

A clear contrast in height between the mother and the son!

- Splash!

Wiping his wet face with his sleeves, he tidied up his long black hair that reached down to his shoulders. From the reflection of the water, one could see that this young man had a thick eyebrows that was shaped like a mighty saber.

This young man, is called Duan Li. Named after his mysterious father, Duan Ju Dai by his mother. Whenever he would asked about his father, his mother would just smile as she repeated the same phrase time and again, "He is a great man." until eventually Duan Li decided to stop asking altogether. If his mother did not want to speak about it, then there must have been a deeper story behind it.

...

Duan Li walked through the forest slowly with the axe up on his right shoulder, his left hand still tucked closely inside his clothes as he looked around to find some suitable trees to chop for firewood.

In their village, firewood was considered to be part of the essential commodities used as a fuel source. Therefore, Duan Li and his mother would get by everyday selling firewood to the village central market.

Because of that, they could be seen as a low class family, a little bit impoverished even, if one were to observe their living conditions. But nevertheless, they still live happily together while practicing this frugal way of life. As a result, they could last day by day without ever going hungry.

"Hmm... seems like this tree should do it..." thought Duan Li to himself as he swung his axe into a chopping motion.

- Tak! Tak!

- Pangg!

Halfway through the tree, the axe seemed to hit a hard object before repulsing his axe forcefully causing it to slip away from his hands. Duan Li was shocked as the impact forced him to stumbled backwards and fell flat on his bottom to the ground with a loud 'thud!' sound.

"W-What just happened...?" he said to himself as he stood up slowly by using both of his hands to support himself from the ground. He felt quite rattled by that sudden repulsion.

Duan Li then approached the halfway chopped tree trunk to get a closer look and to his surprise, he found a tiny pearl the size of a marble ball lodged firmly onto the centre.

This pearl gave off a mysterious feeling to it with its crystal clear like glass that its innards could be seen to contain some form of a shrouding mists with golden glow around it.

"What is this thing...?" he said curiously as he lifted his right hand to grab at it.

Just as his fingers touched it, a blinding flash of light suddenly covered up the entire area he was in before his head was assaulted with unbearable sharp pain that felt like it could burst apart at any moment.

Unable to withstand the pain, his mind went blank as he blacked out and fell to the ground, unconscious.

...

In a kingdom far, far away, an old man with a long white beard draped in a luxurious white robes fell off from his chair.

- Padah!

Rising haggardly as he put both arms onto the chair to support himself to stand up, he muttered with bated breaths and wide eyes;

"The stars of the Nine Heavens has merged together!"

His white beards shaking as he continued with a horrified look;

"T-This... what could this possibly mean??"

…

From that day onwards, the fate of the entire Tian continent has derailed from its original course, forever changed by the unique destiny of a single person...

And that person, his name is Duan Li.
