Omni-Mastery

Analytical Prediction

Analytical Prediction

'Did he actually predict that?'

I was personally fully capable of making a trick like this just by using my increasingly high Perception alongside 'Omni-viewing Eye', so it didn't necessarily mean something unreal like that. However…

That little detail almost made every single thing he said make some sense!

'Impossible.'

"So you are the so-called Fortune Teller."

"Hehe. I really don't like this nickname, but even that was only something that they called me later. Always scammer this, teller that. I am the Great Helper. The Great H. E. L. P. E. R."

The trauma was very apparent in his words, but it was completely understandable. Even currently, I could only get a scamming vibe for the way he spoke as well as the little showmanship he did just now.

"Are you saying you actually know what is going to happen?"

No matter how I tried to think of it, that seemed like absolute bullshit. Even considering how overpowered Innate Abilities were, reading the future wasn't possible.

After all, true omniscience was something that only God was capable of!

"Of course not! If I knew that, would I have suffered all that time or waited for someone to save my arse? That's precisely why I was greatly thankful that you have landed in the Fire Domain."

'Then…'

"You are curious how my ability works, right? No need to deny it. Since you weren't rude enough to demand an explanation, I will give a very simple one to satisfy your curiosity."

Just then, Xin Yu pulled out the fishing line one more time, revealing the very same fish that he released into the pond.

"My ability in its raw form was more of a mental arithmetic that I had to do to measure stuff like a certain creature's hidden stats or weak points, pretty useless to use on my own since I only dealt less damage when I attacked these weak points…"

Contrary to his claim of a simple explanation. It looked like Xin Yu was planning to tell me everything. Was this how a normal lonely person acted? Or was his hardship truly that traumatizing?

"I don't know why I received something like that, is it because I'm a math major? Nothing but a grind-fest if I do say so myself… That was until I figured out that I was just grinding it incorrectly."

'That makes sense.'

Innate abilities were a big mystery. Personally, I would say that I pulled a winning card with Omni-Mastery. However, it only felt that way because I was blessed enough to stumble upon the correct Experience Acquisition events.

'Or it might be the other way around.'

Since I didn't have another specimen with the same skill to compare to, I couldn't tell if that was just the way Omni-Mastery worked, evolving to meet my needs.

In both cases, it all boiled down to me being blessed, which seemed to be the opposite in Xin Yu's case. He would likely have rage-quitted already if this was a normal game.

"Once… Let's not mention the name of the dead. Once the player that I met used the weak spots that I pointed out to him, it was like a sudden rainfall! My skill-unlocking percentage skyrocketed… Though he did leave before I was able to level it up."

'I can already feel the angst from here.'

To actually see the light at the end of the dark tunnel only to be blocked by an impatient decision must have been heart-rendering. Well, the fact that he didn't give up then did show how much resolve he had.

"I had given up on that before as it wasn't of any help, but with a sliver of hope shining in front of me, I finally convinced some hunter NPCs to take me with them. They were very skeptical of what I promised at first. However, once they tried my 'Support', they all got hooked!"

'He indeed has the disposition of a scammer.'

If you could really do something amazing, all you needed to do was let people try it even if it had to be for free.

Once they had realized its true value and become dependent on it, he would have all of these people in the palm of his hands.

"Thanks to that, my ability finally blossomed into something even I could use. I gained the ability to truly scam people by providing them with future knowledge."

'This is on another level.'

I had to do so much just to convince the top brass of the Nature Domain, but once you knew facts beyond normal information regarding a person's future, you could hypnotize the person involved.

'He did have some credibility, but the Domain was still almost taken over.'

That being said, it didn't seem like he convinced enough important people to stop the beast clans from falling into the Demons' trap…

"It might seem like an impossible feat to other people, but my ability wasn't that great. Rather than future prediction, my ability was more like an analytical prediction. Since this world is still technically a game, I can analyze its elements to predict the most probable future. However…"

Plop!

It looked like Xin Yu was trying to replicate his trick, but for the first time, the fish wasn't fully hooked by the fishing line, it only pulled the fish out of the pond before it fell back with some resistance.

"Oh, it happened already! See, this was what I was meaning to show you by repeating this over and over, just like any analytical prediction, it also has a chance of failure. Though… It usually takes too many tries before it fails like this. You must be pretty lucky."

'This makes much more sense.'

If his ability only acted as a supercomputer that analyzed his input to come out with plausible probabilities, then it wasn't something beyond the scope of an Innate Ability.

Instead, it being this much a cheat fitted it perfectly! That was how Innate Abilities evolved!

"At almost 99% chance of prediction success, I was able to do pretty much everything compared to how I started. Just like before, however, once I had used it long enough, I realized that I had barely scratched the surface…"
