Code Zulu Alpha: Nerd in the Apocalypse!

Good, good... - Territory increase?

Good, good... - Territory increase?

The two finally decided on who would go first after several rounds of coin toss and Lois won. Just as Lois was about to get ready, I saw Daisy walking up to the table and raising an M1911. Tatiana smiled and started the timer much to the surprise of the two. When the beep sounded, she took time on each target but she hit them all nonetheless. It took her about two minutes to hit everything properly with a few misses. I let her clear the gun first before she joined the rest of the group for the discussion.

"Hmm, Daisy's accuracy is pretty much on point but we need to work on her grip after she shoots each round. As you can see from what she did, each time she pulls the trigger, she would lower the gun a bit and reset her aim. Doing that would cost you a few seconds if you do it every time you take a shot. Just keep your grip firm and your arms steady and in the right form so when the recoil hits, the sights are not very far from where it was or would still be in the same place. If you continue on practicing, you could definitely increase your speed." I explained.

For Daisy's second try, I made her do the same thing as she did earlier and not go faster as I've said before. I wanted her to apply the things we've discussed earlier and I wanted her to go even slower. This time, she hit them all and she had extra bullets left because she didn't miss a target. However, it took more than two minutes just to finish the course. The last try was kinda the same as the first try but after she composed herself, she actually managed to shave a few seconds off her earlier record. I gave an approving look while the rest did as well.

"Good job." Jay said.

"Thanks!" Daisy replied.

The two who were squabbling earlier took their turns and Lois beat his older brother by a few seconds. It was understandable since Jared was more proficient in rifles and practiced more on long shooting. Well, the two didn't care about that since they only cared about who would beat who.

The others' times hovered around a few minutes on the first mag and it was pretty much the same on the succeeding tries. A few tried to shoot fast but their accuracy sharply fell. Jared and Lois made it look so easy because aside from me bringing Jared to shoot guns, I would sometimes drag Lois with us. Lois was a great shot but he gets bored easily when he tried to do the same thing over and over.

Just as we were about to finish the lesson, Kaley walked up to me and she seemed to avoid eye contact.

"What is with her now?" I thought to myself.

"Want to try as well?" I asked.

"Yeah… I brought the CZ P-09 that you gave me. Might as well try it, right?" Kaley fidgeted.

"Are you still sleepy? Do you have a cold? Why are you a bit red?" I asked.

"Not important, it's nothing…" she said as she walked towards the table.

"Kid, you gave her that gun? That looks really cool. But that doesn't mean that I like it or anything." I heard Matthew from behind.

"Great, another old dude calling me 'kid'." I said to myself.

"Yeah, you a CZ guy? Glocks are the best though; I also gave her an AR-15 from Palmetto State Armory and my wakizashi from Japan." I replied.

"Good, that's good. I don't know what a wakamadingdong is but I bet it's good." Matthew said while nodding.

"This old dude..." I sighed helplessly in my head.

"A flare gun too…" I added.

"Good, good… not that she needs help though." Matthew said proudly while nodding.

"And a couple of grenades…" I added once more.

"Good- Grck! A WHAT?! KID?! A FUCKING GRENADE?!" he almost choked and died at the same time.

"Shh! Be quiet!" Kaley and Marisha exclaimed.

"Oh, sorry dear. Continue, continue." he said sheepishly.

"Shooter ready?" Tatiana said.

Kaley nodded.

"Standby." Tatiana said.

Kaley exhaled.

A few seconds later, the timer beeped.

Kaley pulled the CZ P-09 from her holster and she aimed at the human-shaped targets first. Five suppressed gunshots sliced the air while the steel targets still rang out as the projectiles made contact. All of the shots hit the head almost dead-center.

"Damn. She's improving much quicker than I thought." I thought to myself.

Kaley breezed through the other targets and we just saw the last plate falling down.

"26 seconds." Tatiana said with a smile.

Daisy whistled once more.

The crowd gave elated expressions since most of the people in the group I was teaching were still in the beginning stages. Kaley, Jared, and Lois' performances were the ones worth watching since they were already on the next level.

"Good job. You grasped the next level of speed in these few days. You beat everyone here except me. A few more days and you could catch up to me. If you aim next time, since you're right-handed, go from left to right rather than right to left. Aiming that way would be easier, trust me. Also, you're getting used to managing the recoil well but don't forget about the trigger reset, that's important too if you want to shoot even faster." I praised then explained a few things she needed to work on.

"Thanks! Stop lying, the few seconds to bridge the gap between you and me would take longer than a few days!" Kaley exclaimed but she was smiling. She still avoided eye contact from time to time though.

"Hah! I can't really figure out how you do that. Anyway! Good job everyone! Free time from this point onwards." I said.

We cleaned up the area by placing the targets inside the covered court and picking up the casings that littered the ground next to the table. I left the lead bits on the dirt mound alone for now because I didn't bring the sifter I have at home.

We then headed back to the compound and I just noticed that the barn just had a roof installed. Unc Zeidrick and the rest of my people were tidying the materials they used below. Some of the cows would come inside for shade while some would take a shit or just graze on that plot of land. The only thing missing from the barn were the doors, windows, and paint.

"Good thing they also brought a lot of hay from where they found the cows. There also was a single bull there so they could reproduce in the future. I wonder when the pregnant one would give birth though." I thought to myself.

It was almost 6:00 PM, the new timeslot for the broadcast. We gathered in the living room and Kaley sat next to me. It wasn't even a few seconds and a huge figure blurred my vision and pushed me aside.

"Excuse me, excuse me…" Matthew sat in the middle of us.

"Oh boy." I thought to myself.

*clang*

"Ow! Marisha?! Where are you getting those pans?!" Matthew rubbed his head.

"Move away from those two and sit next to your wife!" Marisha exclaimed.

Matthew sheepishly moved away from us but he still threw me a glare. Olivia sat next to them and she really looked happier now. I spun the keys of the RV in front of him to tick him off even more.

"You little... I swear I'll get that back from you." Matthew said sternly as he sat down next to his wife.

I smirked and I said, "Hah! Kaley, I have a little present for you. It's a dented camper, it has a lot of damage even I would take a long time fixing but I worked hard on it. Everything inside is yours now."

I handed Kaley the keys to her dad's camper then Matthew grew even more furious. She began to laugh hysterically seeing her dad get flustered while her mom was trying to calm her husband down. Olivia was just smiling the whole time as Zeus was also by her side.

The broadcast finally started and then we all quieted down. It was all the same updates but they mentioned that they were urgently looking for the special ones especially the sentries that we found. It was because all the samples that they had were dissected and studied already. They didn't have intact samples except for the normal ones that were very easy to acquire.

"Hmm, is that the true story though..." I doubted in my head.

The city they were in was secure and you could see footage from their helicopter that a wall was currently being built around the portion of the city that they were occupying.

"That is dangerous, why are they covering it whole?" I said.

"Hmm? Why is that dangerous? Isn't it safer to build a wall around the city?" Kaley asked.

"Have you played COC before?" I asked back.

"Hmm, I think I have. It's a building game while you fight with other people or something, right?" she replied.

"Yeah, something like that. My point is, it's dangerous to build a huge one like that. Well, maybe that is the first thing that they are doing but it would be better to have more sectors by each block to have a fail-safe like what I did with my base back then." I explained.

"Why though? The whole place is already secure." Kaley replied.

"My problem with that is if the gates got breached, it's another cleanup procedure and they would have to check it whole. They would have to work fast to finish that wall in case something unexpected happens. That's why in here, we always have guards at our fence and we always secure our gate and the other gates as well. We don't know what might happen if we left them open all the time. The last thing we want is a breach and we start all over again." I explained.

"We might have to disturb your friend on your old house kid. We have more people now so we could increase our territory by a bit." Oscar said.
