The Alchemists

The Truth About Leon

The Truth About Leon

"Oh ..." Her friends simultaneously sighed in surprise. Their faces were immediately filled with expressions of sympathy. This made Rune wonder whose wedding would be taking place next month, that Rose's friends all looked sad.

"I'm sorry," said Peter. His voice was hoarse. It was clear that he really cared about Rose and felt the sadness in her heart.

"Oh .. Rose ..." Helene hugged Rose and patted her back. She then glanced at Rune. "But at least you've got Rune with you. I guess everything will be fine. You'll get used to it, right?"

Actually, Rune was very curious. However, to keep Rose from feeling down, he said nothing and kept all his questions to himself. After all, didn't Rose promise to tell him everything tonight? He would show to her that he could be a patient boyfriend.

"You guys don't worry about Rose." Finally Rune decided to show his support for Rose by embracing the girl's shoulder after Helene released Rose from her embrace. "I'll make Rose happy. You can trust me."

Rose turned to Rune and smiled wryly. She knew Rune must have so many questions for her. Later, as soon as they returned to the apartment, Rose had to have a sit down with Rune and tell him everything .. especially the reason why she needed a fake boyfriend.

"Ah .. I'm glad that Rose has you beside her," Helene said with a big smile. "She can't possibly avoid going to her brother's wedding, right? The media will gossip."

"Brother?" Rune looked at Rose and then turned to Helene. "Rose didn't tell me that she had a brother..."

"Oh .. sorry, I thought you already knew," Helene said awkwardly. She then turned to Rose apologetically. "I blurted out. I thought Rune already knew ..."

Rose shook her head and smiled. "It's okay, really. I was wrong because I haven't told you all the details, Rune. I'm planning to tell you everything tonight."

"Don't rush," said Rune with a smile. He leaned forward and kissed Rose's forehead. "I'm a patient person."

"It's okay, you need to know," said Rose, pushing Rune's chest away from her. She felt that this man was very good at taking advantage of the situation.

"Fine. It's up to you. I really don't mind waiting. I'm sure, if it was really important, you would have told me," said Rune, lying. He was desperately curious to know what had happened.

Did this have something to do with Leon? Who's getting married? Was it Leon? Whoaaa...

There were a million questions going through Rune's mind right now, and he wanted to know the answer. However, the man was surprisingly good at acting, on his face was a flat expression as if he was very relaxed about everything.

"Hm ... alright ..." Rose glanced sideways and saw that there was a glass of wine that she had not been allowed to touch. Before Rune could stop her, she had grabbed the glass and downed its contents.

TAK

That was the sound of the glass that she slammed against the table. Her face turned red again. Rune was very surprised to see Rose's impulsive action, he did not have time to prevent the girl with a kiss.

"All right, you need to know that I actually have a brother. Next month he will get married, and I have to come ..." said Rose, looking at Rune closely. "The problem is ... a few years ago, he was my boyfriend."

Rune was stunned at Rose's words.

Rose's brother used to be her boyfriend?

What kind of joke was this?

Rune looked closely at Rose with a confused face.

"I ... don't understand ..." replied Rune honestly. "Have you been in incest relationship or something?"

Rose smiled wryly and shook her head. "No. Actually ... I had a childhood friend. We grew up together, and wherever he was, I would be. His name is Leon ..."

Oh, so it's Leon, thought Rune.

He watched Rose's lips carefully, trying to listen to every word that came out of her lips. He really wanted to know what happened between Rose and Leon.

And why Leon's marriage left Rose so heartbroken.

"Then? How can he be your brother now? I do not understand ..."

Rose was silent for a long time. It looked so hard for her to explain what happened. Helene touched the girl's hand and nodded.

"I can tell Rune about it, if you don't mind," said Helene. "I know, it's not easy."

Rose shook her head. She rubbed Helene's hand and smiled gratefully.

"I'm fine, really. It's time to accept reality."

The beautiful girl then looked at Rune and continued her story. "Two years ago, my father confessed that Leon was actually his illegitimate child with our maid. That's why Leon was well looked after, sent to an expensive school to study, and treated as his own son ...."

"Oh ..." Rune just understood what happened.

How shocking!

He could imagine how Rose felt so devastated when she learned that the man she loved and grew up with, was actually her own brother.

No wonder Rose felt sad. If Leon got married next month, Rose would have to come as a family member. And she must witness the man she once loved having to start a family with another woman.

Ahh ... poor you, Rose, thought Rune. His heart ached for her.

Rune could not bear to see the girl's heart was broken into a million little pieces. If only Leon weren't family, surely Rose could slowly heal the wound in her heart by walking away.

However, when it was like this, she had no choice. She still had to attend family events.

But, one thing that was still on Rune's mind, was Rose's statement when she was drunk. She said she was disappointed with Leon, who chose status, wealth, and power... over her.

Rose was hurt by Leon's choices, so to make him regret hurting her, the girl would find a poor man to marry.

What did status and power have to do with all of this?

Actually, many things made Rune curious, but he decided not to ask Rose in front of her friends.

"I understand. It must be so difficult to accept the change in status between Rose and her childhood friend," said Rune. "I don't want to know the details. It's okay."

He took Rose's hand and kissed it gently. His blue eyes looked at Rose deeply, and his lips were smiling reassuringly.

Rose didn't say anything. She just forced a smile.

The previously warm dinner had now turned awkward and sad.

Rose, who couldn't accept the situation, hurriedly cleared her throat.

"Ahem ... hey .. you are making me sad. Stop it! Come on, take responsibility!" She pinched Peter and glanced at Helene.

She didn't want her personal problems resulted in Peter canceling his plan to propose to Helene. Therefore, she tried to remind Peter to get ready and pretended that she was okay.

"Oh, that's right.. just a moment, I have to check something," said Peter, coughing a little. He checked his cell phone and nodded in satisfaction.

"They're here."

"Who's here?" Helene asked in puzzlement.

"The helicopter I booked to see New York City from above ... has landed on the helipad at the top of this building. Just now." He tapped Rose's shoulder with a laugh. "Your timing is perfect."

"Ahh ... that's great. Are we all going?" Helene asked happily. "I heard helicopter tours in New York are fun ... I've been wanting to give it a try, but I haven't had the chance."

Peter nodded. "Of course. Come on, all of you, get ready to the roof."

Rune remembered Rose said that Peter would propose to his girlfriend, Helene, at dinner tonight. Ah, apparently he assumed wrong. Not at dinner, but after dinner.

Wahhh .. what a great plan! Flying above New York City by helicopter and watching the city lights and stars in the night sky would feel so romantic. Then ... he could propose to Helene.

Rune had to admit that Peter's proposal was quite a good one.

Ah .. he also had to think of a plan -no less romantic than this one- for when he proposed Rose. He must not lose to Peter Wellington.

Also... his and Rose' wedding should be much more luxurious and festive than Leon and his bride's wedding.

If you read this far, THANK YOU so much for your support for this book.

At the moment, my brain seems to refuse to work on multiple books. I can only write slowly to update The Alchemists and Finding Stardust. I am currently updating "The Cursed Prince" regularly because it's a new book and needs all the support so it can reach more readers.

You can hop on that book and read Mars and Emmelyn's journey :).
