Chasing After My Wife

STANDING ON THE OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE LAW

STANDING ON THE OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE LAW

When Jackie arrived, she saw Vincent sitting on the couch at the window. He's holding on to the hair clip that she left which made her raise her eyebrow.

She didn't greet him or even smile at him as she sat on the couch across him. "What are meeting me for?"

Vincent showed the hair clip in front of her. "Can you tell me why it was on the third floor?"

"Didn't I visit the third floor on my first day? I must've left it there." Jackie answered in nonchalance, not caring about the whirlpool of emotions she saw in his eyes.

"I saw you wearing this when you cooked and when you left."

"I have several clips like that. Losing one isn't an issue."

"Is that so?"

"If I may say, I did something on the third floor, will you catch me?" Jackie dared him which stunned the man in front of her. She didn't really want to mess with him but she wanted him to stop whatever feeling he has at the moment.

Vincent leaned his back on the couch and watched her intently. "What have you done?"

"Nothing. I just gave them the taste of their own medicine."

"Why do you hate them so much? As far as I remembered, you have the same last name as them."

"I do but I am not related to them. Hating them is none of your business and I don't think I'm wrong to hate monsters and demons, am I?"

Vincent took a deep breath and sighed. He was still clutching on the hair clip which belongs to the woman in front of him.

"Aren't you returning that clip to me?" Jackie asked him with her chin placed on her palm. She was watching him, etching his expressions deeply in her mind. 'I fell for the wrong person.' she sighed and slapped her face mentally to wake herself up.

"I found this so this is mine." Vincent immediately put the hair clip inside his coat before she can take it.

"Oh? I didn't know you have this kind of hobby. Do you want me to give you another pair?" Jackie teased him with a wide evil grin plastered on her face.

Vincent didn't react to her words but he kept watching her. "Let's eat something. I don't want you to get hungry because of me."

Jackie smiled but she still refused his offer. "I am not here to have lunch with you." she stood up from her seat and sighed. "Even if you use my hair clip as evidence, even if you bring this matter to the court, even if you know that it's me; you won't be able to put me in jail. We're standing on the opposite side of the law but you will never be able to catch me. I suggest that you forget me instead. I'm not really saying that you like me but just in case, you better guard your heart. There is no such thing as happy ending for us."

Vincent was stunned to hear the words coming from her. She was indirectly admitting her faults to him but then again, there wasn't anything they could find to point at her, except for the hair clip that he will never give to anyone.

Jackie left the cafe and ran across the street to the restaurant. He saw her got inside the place and ordered food with two other people.

"This is the second time that she dump me." Vincent laughed faintly while calling the waiter to get him something.

He took out the hair clip that he placed on his pocket and clipped it on his neck tie. It was a nice accessory to his plain neck tie.

"I won't lose you no matter what." Vincent murmured while watching her from afar.

In the restaurant, Jillyanna and Travis were slowly eating their food while waiting for Jackie. Earlier, when Jackie left, Travis told her where her sister went.

Since the cafe that Jackie went had a clear glass, the same goes for the restaurant they were in. Jillyanna took out her phone and took a picture of Jackie with the man.

"I see. There's nothing to worry about. It's Vincent Ruiz, the young warden of the regional city jail." Jillyanna mumbled and deleted the picture.

"You know that person?" Travis asked while peeling some shrimps for his wife.

"Uh huh. He worked with Lucian once before he became a warden. I've met him before and he also attended Lucian and Cielo's small wedding celebration."

"How old is he now?"

"He is probably 24 or 25. I'm not sure."

"And your sister is 19 years old."

"What exactly are you trying to do? Are you match-making them?"

"I don't need to do that. If the person is meant for you, there's no need to match make."

Jillyanna smiled to his answer before she continued to eat her food. Not long after, Jackie came in and ordered her own food as well.

"Jackie?"

"Yes?" Jackie looked at Jillyanna when she heard her calling for her name.

"I was just wondering. Do you want to be a cop? I mean you are very good in all your missions and in business, too. However, I just thought that it would be better if you apply it for the betterment of our country."

Jackie frowned but there was a little joy in her heart, too. "I don't think I'll be a good cop. Aside from that, I didn't study to become one of them."

"It's never too late to try. Well, that is if you want to become a cop." Jillyanna stated in relax manner. She didn't want to pressure her but from the looks of it, Jackie won't give herself a chance to love because of her works.

Even if Jillyanna wasn't a pro when it comes to love advice or anything about love, she knew some hints and clues.

For example, if Vincent called her just for the sole of business purpose, he could've asked her to come to his office. Anything related to the regional jail is a confidential matter yet, he asked her to meet him in a cafe.

Cafe and restaurants are usual places that couples go or blind dates happened. At the same time, when Jackie left, he didn't leave immediately. Instead, he bought food for him and ate on his own while throwing glances towards their direction.

Jillyanna didn't want her sister to live alone for the rest of her life and Vincent might be a change to it. Of course, it still depends on Jackie's decision. It's a step she needed to take herself.
