Chasing After My Wife

REGIONAL JAIL III

REGIONAL JAIL III

"What?! If you want to say something, speak properly." Jackie was clearly pissed off from getting herself exposed. She couldn't believe that she would fail her sister in this very important task.

Simon chuckled while watching the two of them. From beginning to end, he was just watching them interact. No matter how much he looked at the girl in front of him, he didn't find her familiar at all.

Simon stood up to leave. "I'm glad that your employer wanted to keep me safe. Please tell your employer that I am grateful for his/her concern."

"Sure." Jackie nodded her head and walked out of the office without listening to Vincent anymore. She would only fool herself if she continue to deny her identity when he clearly knew it.

Simon turned towards the young warden and sighed. "I can see that you really like her. Would you let her go without letting her know your feelings? Don't regret your decision today." He left after saying those words.

Vincent was left alone in deep thought. Even if he liked her, he just couldn't allow himself to compromise the life of the prisoners. Yes they were put in jail because they committed a huge sin but, that doesn't mean anyone can take someone's life.

And looking at Jackie, his alarm were ringing in his mind. She was the epitome of danger and he can't help getting suspicious specially that he saw her once with her twin sister. No matter what disguise she'll use, he would be able to recognize her by just looking at her eyes.

He pressed an intercom button and told the chef to stop Jackie from leaving. The chef and all other kitchen staff have their separate quarters but they were put together in the same building which was why the chef can easily find them.

Jackie was done packing her things when their head chef came knocking on her door.

"The warden told me that you can't go out now. It's getting dark outside and we are situated away from the city. It would be difficult for you to get a ride."

"The dark night won't bother me. Why should I listen to him? He just told me to leave not long ago and when I fixed my mind on something, I don't easily change it."

"He said that he's sorry for bothering you."

"His sorry won't change my mind." Jackie slung her bag on her shoulder and put on her rubber shoes. She was holding her phone and called Shein to come over and pick her up.

For the first time, she failed her mission.

Jackie walked out of her room with the head chef following behind her. Other staff were looking at her with curious gazes as well.

"What happened? Why is she leaving?"

"Did she make a mistake?"

"I heard from the people inside that she cooked delicious food. Where is she going now?"

"Did she argue with the warden?"

"Dis she turn him down?"

Different speculations were thrown at her disappearing figure but she never once looked back on the building.

She dialed Shein's number again and he only get to answer her after her third call. "If you want to win over my sister, come and pick me up in this...this..where the hell is this place?!"

It took her few minutes to realize that she didn't know her exact location. "Just track my location cause I don't know where the heck I am right now."

"You're going back this late? Did you fail?"

"Hn. I failed big time but I did see Simon and he was healthy and safe."

"I am not bringing my laptop right now and I am still coaxing your sister. Give me five minutes. I'll borrow a laptop from Diego."

"Alright. Make it fast. I'm getting frustrated and annoyed already."

Jackie talked while she walked farther and farther from the place. Vincent saw her walk out of the vicinity earlier and came out to follow her. He didn't know what to comment with her statement.

"Are you really leaving?" he asked her which didn't surprise Jackie at all. She knew that someone had been following her.

"So what if I'm leaving? Anyway, you promised to keep Simon safe so I'm holding you responsible with your words."

"Can't you stay a bit longer?"

"What for?" Jackie stifled a mocking laugh at him. "You knew who I am. You keep bothering me because you know something. Well, it's good that you are being suspicious because you were able to keep them safe. So, can you leave me alone now? I honestly don't want to see you right now."

"Why?"

"Are you crazy? Why are you asking me why? Isn't it obvious? I hate you. I hate it when I'm being stared at with judgement in their eyes and you are that kind of person. I hate the way you look at me. I hate it so much that I wanted to gouge your eyes."

Her outburst stunned him so much and he was at loss for words. He never thought that, that's how she viewed him. He was indeed suspicious of her but the main reason he often came to the kitchen was because he wanted to see her.

Vincent didn't say anything for a long time. He just followed her wherever she went to protect her. He no longer stopped her because the more he stopped her, the more she'd wanted to leave.

"I'm sorry if I come off rude in front of you. I was indeed suspicious because I've seen you before and I..I can..uhh how should I say this? I..can still remember your scent. You think I'm weird right?"

Jackie looked at him with her cold eyes. Her lips were pressed into a straight line and she looked even more pissed off now.

"I'm telling you the truth. Even if you are in a crowd, I'd be able to tell which one are you. I can even distinguish you from your twin. I saw you during the public trial and I saw you talk with Lucian before. I...think..I like you."

"I'm not interested in getting myself in a troublesome relationship. I don't believe in love and I certainly don't want to involve myself with an old man like you. Hmp!"
