Chasing After My Wife

UNFULFILLED WISHES

UNFULFILLED WISHES

While waiting for the wedding, Anton was busy looking into Elizabeth's past. He wanted to know why she didn't remember and why she never visited him again after the last time she was dragged home.

During investigation it was at this point that he met Atty. Lewis. He was being targeted by some goons because of a case that he won against their leader. Anton found him lying on a pool of blood and he even thought that he was already dead.

He brought him to the hospital as soon as he can. Fortunately, he wasn't hit in any vital organs so he was able to keep his life.

Because of his help Atty. Lewis repaid his kindness by becoming his personal lawyer as well as his private investigator. He continued the investigation for Anton and that's how he met Dr. Sweden. It was also doctor Sweden who dug up information about Elizabeth since he didn't know he would become her mentor in the later years.

Base on the result of investigation, Elizabeth suffered insomnia when she was young and she would often walk in her sleep to go to the garden and find her friend.

Mrs. Summer didn't like the idea that she kept remembering her past because it will be a disgrace to their lineage. She didn't want anyone to know that the most intelligent person in her family was an orphan.

Because of that, she brought Elizabeth overseas and asked someone to conduct hypnosis on her. It was to lock her memories of the past and introduce a new one to her.

Year after year, Elizabeth was brought to the hospital where Dr. Sweden worked to get her hypnosis done. They only stopped doing that after five years when she started studying diligently for her brother Simon who had a heart disease.

However, there was no clue how to undo her hypnosis and the doctor she was seeing before died already. Anton didn't have a clue.

Instead of a month, he moved the wedding in a week. Anton only wanted to keep his promise to her but she had forgotten about him. She even fell in love with someone else.

Nevertheless, he chose to be selfish. He forced her family to marry her off and he took her away from everyone.

The only good side that happened in that marriage was when Elizabeth started to trust him and learned to love him. He was so happy and started forgetting the fact that he took her away from the person she really loved.

Soon, Jillyanna was born. She was an angel to them and the proof of their love. However, she was sickly and most of the time, she was in the hospital for proper observation and recovery. Anton felt depressed and sad for his child. He looked for a heart donor that would be compatible for her. He was willing to pay any amount as long as she lives.

He started to lose hope but fate wasn't that bad to them. As if their daughter could understand their feelings, she was very cooperative and didn't cry that often. Her rehabilitation was also getting better.

Anton and Elizabeth were very happy for their child. They were able to bring her home and live peacefully. They were just a happy family of three. Until Venus came to visit them.

Anton was happy to see her happy with her friend. She had been so busy with her job and their baby that she never thought of her social life. It was a good change that she contacted her best friend.

She was talking with Venus about Jillyanna's condition but their conversation stirred to a wrong direction and ended to her past with Enzo.

Those conversations brought nightmares to Elizabeth but Anton didn't know what to do. She wouldn't tell him anything and he didn't want to force her either. He waited for her to talk. He waited and waited but she never said anything to him.

There were times that he would follow her out and found her watching a man from afar for few minutes before leaving.

She had done it multiple times and seeing her burden, Anton kept his own secret from her. If she can keep such shallow thing a secret then he can do it, too.

He would often leave for business trips and he wouldn't contact her. They rarely spent time together but Anton would secretly visit Jillyanna in the hospital whenever his wife went to work, bringing Jillyanna with her. He would bring her toys and foods for her and he would play with her for a while.

When Jillyanna was five years old, things turned worse and Anton didn't have much choice. He knew how selfish he was when he took her away from the person she really loved. All these years, he thought that he was doing enough but in her heart, he wasn't the one that was occupying it. He could still remember her words clearly, 'I don't want anything bad to happen to him.'

For him, she was willing to sacrifice herself just to make sure that the man she loves would live a good life. For him, her happiness don't matter.

Anton didn't have much time left, he needed to divorce her so she could still marry the person she wanted the most in her life. It took him five years to realize just how selfish his actions were.

All the hardwork he made was fruitless. All the sleepless nights, all the wounds, all the skipped meals and all the humiliation were nothing but an excuse. "I did keep my promise but that doesn't mean it had to be done this way. I could've just bought her freedom and let her live with the person she loves. I could've just forgotten everything. Why did I have to suffer all these? Why did we end up this way? She never once remembered me and I foolishly believed she would love me."

Anton cried on his hospital bed. He had been lying on the same bed for two months with only his lawyer by his side. He wanted so much to see his wife and daughter. He wanted to hug them one last time. He wanted to see their smiles. He wanted to hear them laugh. But he was afraid to see regret in Elizabeth's eyes.

He sent her the divorce paper a long time ago but he didn't get it back. He was coughing blood and he looked so pallid and thin. Atty. Lewis couldn't stop himself from crying. The man who was so strong years ago, the man who cared so much for his family, the man who couldn't even bare to see his wife hurting, gave the last deep and heavy sigh in his life.

Then and there, he left the world from a terminal lung cancer. He couldn't even tell his wife about the promise they once have. He couldn't even show her how much he suffered just to fulfill his promise to her.

Just because he thought he was being selfish. He died with so much regret and he didn't dare forgive himself from the grave mistake he made.

'If only I could hear you say, "Wake up, Anton!" ' That was Anton's last and unfulfilled wish.
