Chasing After My Wife

ELIZABETH'S PAST V

ELIZABETH'S PAST V

Though Elizabeth wanted to get a different opinion when it comes to her daughter's condition, she knew it was most likely impossible.

She brought Venus to her study and left Anton to take care of the baby. They had to discuss this matter since they were both doctors.

"You have to be extra careful around her. You can't let her cry for too long. As much as we wanted her to get treated, we have to wait. You can't have her undergo operation in a very young age." Venus commented before taking a seat next to her best friend.

"I know full well what you mean. I just hope she'd be strong for me and for Anton."

"You didn't regret marrying him?" Venus asked. She just wanted to know how she's doing as a wife and mother.

"At first, I was. I felt so broken hearted with the fact that I was forced to marry someone I don't even know. Ever since the day we got married until now, Anton never blamed me or fight with me. He spoiled me so much that I felt so guilty for being so inconsiderate sometimes." she was cheerful when she spoke so Venus felt the love she emitted.

"I am happy for you. God must have his own plans. Don't worry too much." Venus squeezed her hands gently.

"Have you seen Enzo? How's he doing?" she inquired. It must be because of her guilt that she wanted to know his status.

"Speaking of, didn't you talk to him since you got married? You should actually talk to him. There should be closure between you two." Venus advised but honestly, she'd rather have them not meet again. She always felt restless when it comes to Enzo.

"I actually felt guilty towards him. However, it's better to keep him safe. I don't want him to die because of me. I don't think I can live with that burden."

"If that's the case, you can just avoid him. He knew you got married so I don't think he'd do something reckless against you. He must be sensible with that smart brain he got."

"I know. I just hope he's fine."

Though, that's what she said, Elizabeth felt really bad. She think she was being irresponsible and her guilt was suffocating her.

There were times that she would dream of him. His eyes were soulless and he looked so messed up. He didn't look like a living person. He walked towards her while reaching his hands. She couldn't move. She stood on her place while watching him come nearer.

When he was just a foot away from her, a smile appeared on his lips. He was somewhat mocking her with his gaze full of contempt.

'Your love was a lie! You spoke of your love but you marry someone else! You are nothing but a tool for convenience! You're a coward! Why didn't you fight for me? Why?' His words echoed in her ears but she couldn't move. He wrapped his hands around her neck and strangled her.

Elizabeth tried prying his fingers open but she couldn't. She was having a hard time breathing.

'Stop it. Stop it. Enzo." she tapped his arms but he didn't budge at all.

"Stop it! Enzo!" she called out loud and woke up from her nightmare. She was covered with cold sweats and she was panting heavily.

"Are you alright? I've been trying to wake you up." Anton was looking at her with worry but she didn't tell him what she dreamed of.

"Let's just go back to sleep. I'm fine." she waved her hand and turned her back on him. Anton pulled her closer and she didn't mind but her tears started falling on her pillow.

She felt so guilty and sad. She didn't know why it was happening to her but she couldn't let her husband know. She didn't want him to think that she wasn't over her ex-boyfriend yet.

It didn't just happen once but it happened multiple times. Anton didn't force her to say anything but she felt his sadness. There were times that he would go on business trip and wouldn't contact her at all.

She was really confused and she felt lost with what's happening to her life.

Until she decided to see for herself how Enzo was doing. Everytime she would dream of him, she would visit his place and watch him from afar. Once she made sure that everything's fine, she would go back home.

It was once a week, to once a month, to every two months and until she started feeling calm and normal.

When Jillyanna was five years old, she felt something's wrong. It was then that she realized Anton would often come home late. Sometimes, he would just stay in his office. They rarely talk and spend time together.

Jillyanna didn't have much time with her father and she often stayed at the hospital. Her father would visit her sometimes when her mother wasn't around.

She's always happy whenever her father came to visit her.

"Daddy, you don't look well. You're so thin already. Jill is bigger than you." the little girl stated while comparing her arms to her father.

Anton just smiled while rubbing her head. "Daddy needs to work for you and mommy. She can't have wrinkles so you should be a good girl."

"I am always a good girl." she argued back.

"I know. Daddy loves you and mommy. I will always be by your side no matter what happened." Anton kissed her forehead before leaving her to the nurse.

He needed to leave before his wife could go back.

Many people said that promises were meant to be broken. Many people don't believe in that but it still happen.

The promise Anton gave was never fulfilled.

Elizabeth just got home with her daughter when she found an envelope on the table. She opened it and check the content.

Her tears fell and she sobbed like a child she could no longer keep her composure. She broke down in front of her child. Jillyanna didn't know what's wrong but she felt sad for her mother.

"Don't cry mommy. Daddy said you can't have wrinkles. Stop crying already." Jillyanna wiped her tears so she stopped crying in front of her.

She helped her go to bed before she went to their room. Anton's things were still in place but there was no warmth in her room already. It was cold and gloomy.

I DON'T WANT TO TIE YOU DOWN FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. I WANT YOU TO LIVE A HAPPY LIFE. IF YOU STILL LOVE HIM, GO AFTER HIM. I HAVE INCLUDED THE DIVORCE PAPER INSIDE. YOU CAN SIGN IT AND SEND IT TO MY OFFICE ADDRESS. I WANT TO SET YOU FREE. YOU CAN SEND JILLYANNA TO ME IF HE DOESN'T LIKE MY CHILD. YOU KNOW ELIZABETH, I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED YOU.

That's what written on the paper she found inside the envelope together with the divorce papers. It was his penmanship.
