Chasing After My Wife

WHO'S NEXT?

WHO'S NEXT?

Vincent had been calling Jackie's phone for several times but no one was picking it up. He was anxiously watching the cameras while calling her.

He was afraid for her. He was afraid to find her in the screens. He was afraid that she was involved in this matter once again.

He wanted to interfere but he would be deemed criminal and guilty for obstructing the officers in doing their job. All he could do was to pray that she won't be there when the officers gained control of the security cameras once again.

"It's fixed!" someone shouted, pulling Vincent back to reality. His heart lurched into his throat and he was having a hard time breathing while the officers looked into the cameras, back warding the time to thirty minutes later.

One after another, they checked the footage and found nothing was out of ordinary. Vincent started to feel relieve and his heart was calming down as well.

He was just about to sit on his chair and sigh from relief when the intercom on the side of the wall buzzed.

"Sir, third floor of the cell building was...was a mess. The guards were lying on the floor unconscious and three cells were opened but, everyone...everyone inside are all dead."

"What?!" The officers, including Vincent, were surprised from the news.

They immediately checked the cameras on the third floor of cell building and found the two guard on the floor but they didn't find anyone who came inside. In fact, the gate to the cell room was still closed.

No matter how they tried to recover the details and the lost data, they couldn't find anything and they didn't see anyone at all.

"How did this happen?" the officers questioned with helpless gazes. Their faces darkened from their obvious incompetence and they were worried that they would be fired at once.

Vincent shook his head to clear his mind. "Let's check the cell building first. Call someone from officer Seville's team and a forensic doctor. Ask them to come over immediately."

It wasn't long ago that Lucian and his team worked on a case that involved Jillyanna and Travis. Now, he was called to take another murder case which was possibly involving them again.

He arrived at the regional city jail with Nik and David. Someone from the forensic department came with them to check the dead bodies as well.

"Would you mind briefing us about what transpired?" Lucian asked Vincent who looked so stress and haggard.

"Someone hacked our security system and helped someone infiltrate the compound. It was clear that their main target was on the third floor of the cell building. The suspect didn't kill anyone aside from the Summers."

"But you mentioned that one of the family were still alive." Nik cut in to add what he remembered.

"Simon Summer. When they were all captured, he was the person who confessed everything to the law and helped us with the investigation. He was also the one who helped the special task force team to infiltrate the laboratory. I had him isolated from the group to keep him safe. Among them, he is the only one left alive."

"That's odd." Nik murmured. "And you wanted me to recover the loss of data right?"

"Yes, if possible. My men couldn't get anything at all."

Lucian already had a bad feeling about what happened and he didn't want Nik to find something that can be used against Jillyanna.

'How am I so sure that it is her? Am I suspecting my little sister?' Lucian asked himself. His suspicion was actually grounded since Jillyanna held a deep grudge to this family but he was also doubting if it was her.

"What have you found so far?" Lucian asked the forensic doctor who was checking the victims.

"Only one suffered a painful death. Her limbs were broken and she suffered from so internal damage. Aside from her, everyone died from a very potent poison."

Vincent looked at him before shifting his gaze to the dead bodies lying on the floor. "It could be that she used the headmistress to threatened everyone."

"That's very possible." Lucian responded. He turned around to see the other inmates who had been watching the investigation. "Can you tell us what you witness?"

"We knew that it was a girl."

"It was a woman in black."

"A woman killed them!"

"A little girl poisoned them."

"She was really scary!"

Vincent and Lucian looked towards each other with knowing eyes. Lucian knew that Jackie was the only one who can possibly infiltrate the place in a short time since she worked there for quite sometime. Vincent knew that only Jackie would do it since she had done it before already, which means she can do it a second time.

"Did you report this to the heads already?" Lucian asked Vincent who nodded his head faintly. "Let's wait for their decision then."

They did a little investigation but they didn't really put their heart into it. Firstly, the public didn't care about their death. They would even be happy about it. Secondly, if they would really make a thorough investigation, it might lead them to Jackie and they didn't want that to happen. Thirdly, they knew that there was a high chance of the higher head to dismiss this case. They were taking their bet on it.

In the computer monitoring room, Nik shook his head towards the other officer. "I'm afraid I can't do anything about this."

"That's fine. We already tried our best." the officer gently pat Nik's shoulder.

He really wanted to suggest getting Shein and recover the data but he was told by Lucian, again and again, that Shein shouldn't be involved in their job or Jillyanna will pull their heads off their necks. Thus, he sealed his mouth and gave up on the idea.

The death of the Summer family was spread far and wide but nobody cared about it. Why would anyone care for evil humans? Why would anyone feel sorry for them.

They deserved to die!

However, Jillyanna felt a little guilty that Jackie had to bare the burden of having blood in her hand.

Jillyanna called for Jackie first thing in the morning before she was going to leave for school. She wanted to make sure that she was alright.

"You don't really have to feel guilty about it." Jackie stated, arranging the dishes that she brought with her from home.

"You didn't wish for this thing to happen. You wanted to become a police officer right?" Jillyanna spoke solemnly to her sister.

"I don't wish for it and I don't wish for your death. I would not wait for anyone to kill you before I make a move. What's the purpose of teaching me if I can't protect you?"

"I taught you to fight so you can protect yourself."

"I am protecting myself by protecting you." Jackie retorted. "Really sis, you have nothing to worry about."

"Okay." Jillyanna softly whispered. Even so, she still felt bad for Jackie. "Don't push yourself so hard."

"Hn." Jackie nodded but her mind was working as to who should she target next.
