7 Path of the Lilies

Defense Runes

Defense Runes

Not far behind them, Su Tan was looking in the direction of the four of them. He was selected as Inner Disciple in the Hua Shan Academy after passing the examination back then. Even though his result was not too good compared with the others, he was still not bad overall.

But if he had to compare himself with those three, it would be a far cry.

"Su Tan."

The cold and icy voice from behind him caused Su Tan's body to turn cold. He could definitely recognize this voice, even in his dream. He turned around, looking at the refined man behind him.

"Senior Brother…"

"Find a way to handle them," the refined man said. He glanced at the back of the five disciples as his eyes glinted in ruthlessness. "You should know what will happen if you don't do anything soon."

Su Tan's body shuddered in fear. There was no need for this man to say it again as Su Tan understood perfectly. As a failure in Su Family, his destiny was only to become a puppet of his family and entered the academy, relying on information about them. With the numerous offsprings the Su Family had, the competition has always been fierce.

His little result didn't amount to anything here.

"I… I understand. I just need a little bit more time."

The senior didn't even look in his direction. He was looking straight at the five of them as he sensed lingering killing intent. His lips curled up in interest. Those brats didn't seem to be ordinary at all.

'Su Family is truly creating the wrong opponent this time, but that Ye surname should have never existed in the first place.'

"If you don't make a move soon, we'll take things in our hand, and you should be ready for your punishment."

"Yes."

Su Tan bowed slightly with his face filled with cold sweat. If he didn't make a move soon, it would be over. That girl has the potential to become one of the greatest geniuses in the world. They needed to act fast before she fully utilized her potential.

Clenching his fists, Su Tan thought of numerous things inside his mind.

"Senior Brother Su, are you coming with us?"

"Yes."

….

"Hmm? Why are you stopping, Jiao'er?" Lin Cai asked with confusion. She was still latching on Ye Jiao's back, hugging the girl tightly after she had finished arguing with Qin Zheng.

Ye Jiao shook her head. "It's nothing."

She faintly sensed a killing intent coming at them for a split second. It was gone as soon as it appeared, hence she was not sure whether it was real or not. She might have been too tired from the previous battle. After all, it was weird for students to kill one another, right?

Yeah, except for those Su Family members.

They hadn't done anything as she didn't really have any relationship with them, but they might be scheming something on her back.

"You two are weird," Lu Wan put both of his hands on the back of his head. "Anyway, I'm going back first. It's a bit weird for a low ranked Core Disciple to get so close with the four forefront disciples."

"Considering our strength, it's not that weird," Qi Huan shrugged. "Besides, the three of us come from the same place."

"Right."

Qin Zheng picked back his knife. "I'll be registering the group. Who else do you want to be part of the group, Jiao'er?"

Ye Jiao was not used to this new way of calling from Qin Zheng. She eyed the young man suspiciously before replying. "Us five, Xin Jie, and Jun Ge."

"…Who?"

"Jun Ge," Ye Jiao repeated. "He's Xin Jie's best friend and also a guardian. If you don't remember him, he's the one that Xin Jie picked to fight just now."

Qin Zheng recalled that fight. He barely paid any attention because those fights were clearly uninteresting, but he still remembered some of them. He nodded his head. "Full name?"

"Wang Jun."

"Got it. You can rest first, and I'll register our names."

"Ok!"

"See you in a week's time!"

The five of them went their separate ways back to their own residence. Ye Jiao returned back to her room and sat down on her bed before recovering her Eon Energy. She wanted to practice making runes again.

Time passed swiftly.

'Again!'

Ye Jiao looked at the dissipating Eon Energy in front of her in frustration. She only has a week's time before the start of the mission, but so far, she hadn't managed to create the perfect runes.

It always ended up with a lack of Eon Energy.

'I can do this.'

There were still two days left, so Ye Jiao focused her attention on filling her core with Eon Energy once more. She hadn't had any sleep at all, but her body was not tired. She just wished that she would be able to finish making the runes by the end of this week.

'Alright, let's try again.'

Opening her eyes, Ye Jiao raised her slender finger. Slowly, Eon Energy poured out of the tip of her index finger. In the next second, Ye Jiao started moving her fingers at high speed while concentrating hard to ensure that the runes were not broken in line. More and more, Eon Energy poured out as the line was joined together.

The shape of the runes started to take form.

Swish!

By the time Ye Jiao finished forming the runes, she could sense the movements of the runes before her. It formed a large shield in front of her that was very durable. Even though Ye Jiao felt her body weakened because of the lack of Eon Energy, she still looked at the runes before her.

Finally.

She finally made one.

The runes she formed were a non-elemental shield. Considering that she hadn't started to learn how to insert elements to her Eon Energy, she thought that this would be the best choice to learn. After an arduous week, she had finally managed to form the rune. She couldn't count the number she practiced to form the runes.

"I'm glad that I have an array to focus more on Eon Energy in this room, or it'll be a dream to form the runes," Ye Jiao sighed in relief.

She plopped on her bed while her eyes stared at the defense runes before her. It would last for some time by absorbing the Eon Energy around this place unless she destroyed the runes line. However, she didn't have the intention to do that.

"Let's take a bath then rest. I can finally have a good sleep."

This was nothing more than the first step, but at the very least, she had taken another big step in the path as Rune Master.
