Ghost In Red

C52 Chapter 52 - False Positive

C52 Chapter 52 - False Positive

*Olivia Jillian Hunters' POV*

---

"What are we going to do now?" I sighed and asked out of nowhere while we were riding a cab back to our rented room.

Sydney seemed to be looking out the window and thinking something so deep, and she never bothered to talk to me about what had just happened back there at Veronica Dawson's residence.

It turned out that the woman wasn't my mother, of course. They just have the same name. It was that old lady's husband who got the surname Dawson. And they don't know who my mom is or any of my relatives here in Illinois. They just have the same family name. Bummer, I know.

I really don't know what else to do to find my mom, but I know that this lovely blondie right here on my left already has a plan or has been thinking of one. Hmm, I trust her, and I believe we can accomplish our mission in no time.

We arrived at our room, and I walked to the bed and lay on my back. I saw my girl sitting on the couch near the bed, took out her phone, and scrolled something on there.

I want to ask her about what she had thought of, but I know I wouldn't be a part of it still. I had contributed like… literally nothing on this mission of ours. But hey, I did give her moral support and undying spirit support. Haha.

But I am going to ask her, anyway.

"Hey, Syd! What's the plan? If there is any." I sat up on the bed, looked at her, and she shifted her gaze to me from her phone.

"I… uh, yeah. I have one. I think this will be great. And I'm so sorry if plan B successfully failed, Oj. But don't worry. We won't stop until we find her. Come here. Look at this." She answered and gestured to me to come close, and it didn't fail to make a smile slowly form on my face. I went to the couch, where she sat, and she gave me a space to sit on.

Sydney showed me her phone screen, and I saw that she had been laying out a document with a picture of my mom and a passage above it that says, "I'm looking for this person.". Then there is a contact number, and I guess it was Sydney's.

"A flyer?" I asked and saw her nodding her head in response.

"Yep. In this way, we can print a lot of copies of this and post it anywhere or give this to people so that many people can see it. Maybe they could point out to us where your mother could be. Maybe an old friend of hers, relatives, colleagues, and anyone else out there who knew her. Well, there are a lot of possibilities that someone might have known her in this neighborhood." She explained and looked so motivated, and I have no other words to say. She's right.

"I totally agree, Syd. That's awesome. Let's do it." I remarked, and she looked back to her phone and then asked me something.

"Okay. Now, what I need from you is… tell me your mother's full name, complete name. Including her middle name. That is very necessary, so we won't end up getting calls pointing us to another wrong Veronica Dawson again."

"Oh, yeah, right, of course! My mother's name is Veronica Cortez Dawson. And also, Syd, I have a suggestion. Because… maybe Mom could see it and would be wondering if who was looking for her, you could add there… My name. Uh… she calls me Jill. It's only her who calls me that. And I know she will automatically know that it's me who wants to see her." I said while feeling so sure it would work.

"Mhmm. Brilliant! I'll put it down." She replied and got on with her thing while I kept staring at her pretty face. Oh, I could gawk at her all day and night. She's so beautiful and charming at the same time.

"What?" She asked while not looking at me, and I chuckled and cleared my throat as I had nothing that I wanted from her other than stare.

"Nothing. And don't ever blame my eyes for seeing you. There's nothing else good to look at in this four-cornered room." I retorted and crossed my arms on my chest, and I heard her giggle.

"Whatever, Hunters. I didn't say anything about you, peering at me." She replied, still not looking at my face, and I saw how her dimples appeared when she widely smiled.

Ugh, why does she have to be so fine-looking? I badly want to pinch both her cheeks… and kiss her. Damn, I just can't get enough of the wonderful sensation whenever I am close to her. It's simply everything I never thought I'd be needing from another person. And I am super glad that it's her.

The time passed, and Sydney had already eaten lunch, and we went down to finally spread on the streets the flyers she produced from the nearest printing shop to the inn. And I have faith that these pieces of paper will lead us to my mother.

We only have less than a week. Five days. Five days is all we have left, and I hope that it's going to be enough.

---

"That's the last one for today," Sydney muttered after placing a flyer on a bulletin board by the sidewalk, and I kept reading the different posters posted here. Some were wanted individuals, missing pets, while some were job-hiring opportunities.

"And where are we going tomorrow? South?" I asked the girl, and she turned to me and shrugged her shoulders.

"We are going to the East Side tomorrow. But first, let's grab some dinner, and we'll go back to our room." She replied and walked ahead down the sidewalk.

I followed behind her, going inside the nearest restaurant.

When she had found an empty table, she led us there, and I smiled so wide as she pulled a seat for me to sit before she went to the opposite side of this table for two.

This is like the fifth time she made this sweet gesture to me whenever she eats a meal in a place like this. I won't lie, out of all the people I dated, she is the most gentle, charming, brave, good-looking, and absolutely, the smartest. But, she's the most complex, unpredictable, and stubborn. Mhmm, she's everything I need, and I am so lucky to have her.

"Thanks," I said and sat down, and she winked at me in response with a big bright smile on her gorgeous face.

If I am not in this form right now, I could have been blushing so damn hard.

After she gave her food orders to the waiter, she clasped her hands on the tabletop and looked me in the eyes. She let out a deep breath and licked her lips.

I guess she wanted to talk to me about something. But I don't think she should be talking since there are other people at the table around us nearby.

Then I got curious when she took out her phone and began talking to it.

Who is she calling?
