You, CEO’s Secret Wife

C6 Director Huo's Smile Was Full of Charm

C6 Director Huo's Smile Was Full of Charm

Huo Liancheng had just come from the 28th floor. From afar, he was everything a woman wanted in a man–tall, handsome, and extraordinary. Just the mere sight of him would send women falling and men hyperventilating with his imposing aura. Behind him were ten other people–all directors of the Ming's Enterprise.

Jian Yun's heartbeat raced faster and faster with each step the man had taken. She held her breath and ducked her head, not daring to meet his gaze. If he knew who she was, it would all be over for her.

When she saw that Liancheng had walked past her, she heaved a sigh of relief. However, just as she was about to raise her head and act as if nothing had happened, he immediately stopped in his tracks. He whispered a few words to the man behind him and strolled towards her.

While her colleagues swooned and giggled in excitement, Jian Yun found herself praying that her seat could chuck her out of the window. Feeling as if her hands were tied to the desk, she tensed up.

Although they all worked in the same building, important figures like the board of directors and the upper management worked on the 28th floor. With private elevators constructed for their convenience, it was rare for many workers to come in close contact with those in the higher-ups, especially with the newly established CEO. Upon seeing him approach their side of the desk, many women lit up with excitement as they quickly batted their eyelashes, hoping that they could catch the man's attention.

"Look up for me." The man's voice sounded right behind her, and her hands stopped fidgeting.

Jian Yun lowered her head, not daring to move.

"Hey! He's talking to you!" Wu Wenjing poked her excitedly on the side, snapping her out of her thoughts. Now, with all eyes on her, she had no other choice but to raise her head and meet his dark gaze. Her nails dug into her palm as she struggled to keep her cool.

Liancheng's eyes were as cold as night, and upon taking a good look at her, his eyes narrowed even further. Then, the corners of his lips quirked up into a charming smile. He reached out and removed the thick-rimmed glasses from the bridge of her nose. "These glasses don't suit you."

At that moment, the entire floor had quieted down as all of them gazed at Jian Yun with interest.

Their gazes were like pricks of needles being inserted into her back. Her mind had gone blank as she struggled to find the words to respond to him.

"I–thank you, President Huo," Jian Yun stuttered out, clenching her jaw in the process.

To others, it may have just been a casual compliment, but she wasn't naive enough to miss the sinister flash in his eyes.

Huo Liancheng smirked one last time before taking two steps back. After one look at the entire workplace, he made his way out of the office, leaving behind a group of rabid female employees. Immediately, they surrounded Jian Yun, clasping their hands across her desk as they inquired about her relationship with President Huo. "Have you met before?" One of them leaned against her desk, looking as if the woman was trying to bask in the scent he had left behind.

"I don't even know him!" Jian Yun didn't dare say that the only reason they had gotten acquainted was that she had yelled and insulted him. Karma really had its ways of getting back at her.

However, the female employees still didn't look convinced by her defense. Instead, they peered at her even more, trying to get her to crack. It was Li Xiangrong who had chased them back to their seats. He waved his hands up in the air. "Alright, that's enough for the day. Let's head back to work!"

As all of them returned to their seats, Wu Wenjing nudged her. "Yun, be honest! Are you sleeping with him?"

"I said I don't know him!" Jian Yun shot her a glare.

"Really? Does President Huo approach all the girls he didn't know?" She rolled her eyes, snorting.

"How am I supposed to know? Wait, where are my glasses?" Jian Yun squinted, noticing that her vision had blurred. When she reached out to touch her face, she realized that her glasses had disappeared.

"President Huo probably took them away." Suddenly, a thought flashed in Wu Wenjing's mind. She pointed at Jian Yun, waving her other finger in the air as if she had just caught her in a lie. "Hey! If you and President Huo really didn't know each other, why would he take off your glasses? Why would he even talk to you? Hm, something's fishy over here, but even then, I have to agree with him. I always told you that the glasses don't suit you. I mean c'mon, you were the college beauty back in Qing University, and you're covering your face up as if it's something to be ashamed of!"

Jian Yun leaned back on her seat and stared at the ceiling. She was in no mood to listen to her friend's blabbering. Instead, her mind was floating elsewhere. Although she wasn't very nearsighted, and she could do well with no glasses, that still didn't give Liancheng any right to take them away from her! Plus, he didn't have to embarrass her in front of all her colleagues!

She had been so distracted that she didn't even notice that it was already time for lunch. However, Jian Yun had already lost her appetite. The more she thought about Liancheng, the more uneasy she felt about this entire situation.

Suddenly, a cup of hot water was placed on her desk. When Jian Yun raised her head, her eyebrows shot up in surprise upon seeing Li Xiangrong standing in front of her. "Hey, is anything wrong?" He smiled understandingly. "You look so pale! Do you want to rest for a bit?"

She stared at the cup of water for a long time as if it had been poisoned right in front of her. At the sight of her manager's fake smile, her heart thrummed in her chest.

Jian Yun had worked at the Ming's for three years, and the only time they had ever interacted was when Li Xiang Rong would make her work overtime. He had never smiled at her before, nor had he asked her how she was doing. It was a strange sight, that was for sure. She had to suppress a shudder.

"Why don't you stop sucking up to her, you ass!" Wu Wenjing sneered. "Ugh! I'm smelling a buttload of trash here. Don't you smell it too, Yun?"

He could only rub the back of his neck in embarrassment, not knowing how else to reply to his ex. However, just as he was about to walk away, the man backed up and whispered in her ear, "Miss Jian, I think we didn't really get on the right foot when we first met, but I was hoping we could start now." He paused before continuing shyly, "Perhaps you could even drop in a few words about me to President Huo about the promotion. I mean you're his woman after all..."

"Manager Li, I think you've misunderstood something." What the hell did he mean about being President Huo's woman? Did he assume they were having an affair or something?

"No misunderstandings! Absolutely not!" Li Xiangrong winked at her. Not giving her any other opportunity to explain herself, he placed a hand on his chest. "In fact, I have to agree with President Huo on this one. The glasses didn't fit you. You're beautiful, especially your eyes."

"Ugh!" Wu Wenjing gagged in her seat.

By this time, the lunch break had already come to an end, and the office was once again filled up with various employees. Jian Yun would see some of them gathered together as they glanced her way from time to time with complicated expressions written all over their faces. Her interaction with Liancheng had gotten out of hand, and now, it seemed that everyone else had misunderstood their relationship. Shaking her head, she directed her gaze to her screen.

There was still an hour before they got off work when Jian Yun received an email from 'Call Me Jing'–Wu Wenjing. Her friend had gone on a business meeting that afternoon, and she was already on her way back.

Call Me Jing: "Yun! Do you know how much of a big shot you've become around here?"

Slow-Getter: "?"

Call Me Jing: "Everyone around here thinks you're President Huo's woman! No wonder Li was sucking up to you earlier!"

Slow-Getter: "…"

Call Me Jing: "And everyone believes that the reason he accepted our company is because of you!"

Call Me Jing: "The imps in the PR Department are about to have a heart attack here! HAHAHA, I swear I'm going to die from laughter!"

Call Me Jing: "Hey, are you still there?"

Wu Wenjiang had just stepped onto the twentieth floor, wondering why her friend didn't reply to her last email until she heard a sound. When she turned her head to the side, she saw a familiar figure entering the elevator right next to her. It was Jian Yun!

However, to her surprise, Jian Yun wasn't using the staff's elevator. Instead, she was using the exclusive ones that headed right up to the CEO's office on the 28th floor! What the hell was going on?
