C78 You Can Keep Me from Getting Thirsty

"Yes!" Realizing that she had just fallen right into his trap, Jian Yun pulled away and shot him a glare. Instead of snapping at him like she usually did, she decided to turn and face the window. If she had spoken more, she would've embarrassed herself, like what had happened time and time again. Digging her nails into her palms, she huffed.

The smirk in Huo Liancheng stayed, and she couldn't help but scowl at the sight. 'The bastard thinks he's the best the world has,' she thought incredulously. 'As if!'

However, with his joke, the atmosphere in the car had grown even less awkward. In the past few days, she had actually started seeing him in a different light. He was no longer her cold and indifferent boss, but some old acquaintance who had just popped into her life. It didn't help with the fact that he wasn't in his normal suit and tie like back at the office but in his casual tee and jeans.

As they drove in silence, she slowly said, "I didn't have a reunion with my classmates that night–just so you know."

"I know, I saw it."

Thinking back to the time she had seen his car parked right in front of them, Jian Yun lowered her head, not knowing what else to say. After all, she was already caught red-handed.

"I saw it back at the office," Huo Liancheng added.

Her eyes widened momentarily. Did that mean that he had seen her way beforehand? Before the second call had even taken place? Twisting her wrists, she pursed her lips. Until now, she still couldn't help but wonder why she felt so guilty when it came to him. It had been a long time since she felt like this with anyone before.

"What's with the face?" Stopping the car, he turned to her.

"I–I'm sorry," she said softly.

An unfathomable expression flashed across his features, and he raised his eyebrows. "Why are you sorry?"

"I'm...it's nothing. Just thought you should know," she said dismissively, not saying anything more. The words had tumbled out of her lips before she could even stop herself.

"Are you apologizing because you're meeting another man behind my back?" Huo Liancheng grinned, satisfied with her apology. He was ecstatic that she had taken it in herself to apologize, meaning that she really had him in mind. But he definitely wasn't going to let her live this down. After all, what would he be if he didn't rub it in her face a little bit more?

"I..." Jian Yun shook her head and stayed silent. Even she was a bit confused with her sudden declaration.

Fortunately, the stoplights had turned green, and Huo Liancheng had stepped on the gas. He didn't torture her any more with his questions.

"Do you have some time today?"

"Yes, the Bernards have returned to France," she replied. "So I'm free."

"Then are you going to do anything to make me forgive you?" There was a twinge of flirtiness to his voice, one that she had quickly caught on.

"What do you want to do?" The more Jian Yun interacted with him, the more she knew that she had misunderstood him. It seemed that he wasn't cold as he had initially looked. In reality, he was actually the most shameless man she had ever met in her entire life. Even she couldn't catch up with his innuendos. Her gaze had turned dark at the thought.

"Could you stop glaring at me like that?" With one hand still on the wheel, he used his other hand to pinch her cheeks.

"Are you really that addicted to my cheeks?" Jian Yun was about to pat his hand away, but as soon as her fingertips had grazed the back of his hand, he suddenly grabbed a hold of her. His long fingers wrapped around her wrist and the warmth of his palms rushed through her veins. She froze.

She subconsciously struggled against him, but it was to no avail. The more she resisted the tighter his grip became. Her cheeks had blushed bright red. "Let go!"

"Do you blush like that when you're with Lawyer Zhou?" Huo Liancheng demanded, narrowing his eyes at her. His other hand drifted down her cheekbones once they had reached another stoplight. "Hmm...how far have you gone with him? Have you already slept with him?"

Her fingers twitched, and the urge to slap him grew even stronger. When Jian Yun looked up, she could see that his clear eyes had now been clouded over with jealousy.

She had wanted to explain herself at first, to tell him that nothing had happened between them. Hell, they only held hands once, and she was already disgusted with him! However, just as she was about to, she decided to restrain herself. What's the use of explaining things to him? It wasn't as if he was anyone to her. Sneering, she spat out, "Yes, I've done everything with him. Will that be a problem?"

Besides, from the way he had brought it up, it was as if he was so sure that she was a loose woman. She had no time for judgmental people like him. Since he was so self-assured with his thoughts, what else did she have to say?

Before Jian Yun could say anything else, Huo Liancheng's gaze had darkened even further. It was as if a thick layer of frost had marred his expression, and there was undisguised anger glittering in his eyes. She reeled back. It was like watching a lion that had just started a hunt. Not wanting to provoke him anymore, she lowered her head and pursed her lips.

Why was he so angry when she had said that she was with another man?

Did he see her as his?

Jian Yun slowly glanced up at Huo Liancheng, who had his eyes right on the road. Although he looked like he was focused on driving, she could sense the coldness radiating off him, and she suppressed the urge to shiver.

He was still holding her hand, and she suddenly lost all the courage to break free from his grip.

It was only when he let her go did she finally ask, "Where are we going?"

"To the movies," he replied.

'The movies? What is he planning?' She didn't really peg him as someone who'd watch movies in his spare time.

Afraid to question him any more, she didn't refuse. Instead, she silently stared at the waving movie advertisements surrounding her as they were approaching the Wanda Plaza. This was the place where everybody usually headed to watch all the top-notch films, and it was usually very packed with people.

Today was no different. In fact, the square was filled with various crowds as they peered at the announcement box for the next batch of movies. However, as soon as the pair stepped towards the counter, all of their attention had turned to the newcomers. Huo Liancheng was tall and handsome, with an air of elegance wrapped around him like a sweater. Jian Yun was as beautiful as she was sweet, so it was only normal for them to attract their wistful glances.

They looked like a pair of legends that had popped out of some front cover magazine, and the surrounding people couldn't help but be in awe by their looks. Some even pulled out their cameras to snatch a few pictures of them. After all, who wouldn't be entranced at the sight of this attractive couple?

"Mmf." Jian Yun stifled a groan as she immediately lowered her head. If those pictures would spread across the web, she'd be in deep trouble. After all, Xia Bingbing was already all up in her grill based on mere assumptions. What more if she suddenly had evidence of them hanging out together after work? This would obviously lead to many misunderstandings.

Fortunately, Huo Liancheng caught her disgruntled expression and swept his eyes across the surrounding people. His aura was far too intimidating that whoever had brought their phones out immediately placed them back into their pockets. Slowly, the crowd dispersed all around them, not wanting to push him any further. After all, who would dare piss off such a menacing man?

"What do you want to see?" Jian Yun asked him once they've finally reached the counter.

"Which looks good?" He couldn't care less what they see as long as it was with her.

Before she could say anything else, the assistant immediately started blabbering with suggestions, "Sir, the Mermaid movie is good! Not only was it directed by Xing Ye himself, but the box office made over two billion yuan! It's very light and sweet, perfect for you."

"I've already seen this before."

"Let's pick this." Huo Liancheng shifted his attention to the screen. Originally, he wasn't as interested in watching the Mermaid, but after hearing Jian Yun's staunch refusal, he had immediately decided on this film.

She crossed her arms over her chest. "I've already seen this," she repeated. "I want to watch another film."

"Really? With who?" He glanced at her.

Immediately, Jian Yun shut her mouth. She didn't need another rerun of what had happened back in the car.

"Sir, do you have a membership card for our movie?" The assistant kept sneaking glances at Huo Liancheng, and her eyes glimmered with so much lust and infatuation for him. Her eyelashes fluttered as she leaned against the counter, revealing her cleavage. But it didn't seem to affect him.

He shook his head. "I don't have one."

"I do!" Jian Yun rummaged through her bag, hoping to find her card in one of the pockets, but Huo Liancheng had already handed the cash to the register.

"We can use your membership card some other time," he later said.

She had just taken out her card when she heard his suggestion. Immediately, the corner of her mouth twitched in resistance. Was there really going to be a next time? At the thought, she could simply stay silent and move to the next stall. Jian Yun wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of seeing her flustered–not this time.

Acting as if he didn't see the look of contempt on her face, Huo Liancheng grabbed the tickets and led her to another store. "What do you want to drink?"

"Milk tea." Once he had bought her drink, he also bought a large bag of popcorn. By the time they were finished, it was already time for the movie. Without another word, the pair walked straight to the ticket office.

"Don't you want anything to drink?" Seeing that he was still empty-handed, Jian Yun furrowed her eyebrows. "The movie's going to be two hours. Aren't you going to get thirsty?"

"I don't like milk tea." Huo Liancheng shrugged. "Besides, you're a far more effective way in quenching my thirst."
