C75 Check Your Body

Hearing the lawyer's statement, Jian Yun couldn't hold herself together anymore. She slammed her hands on the table and stood up, almost knocking out Cheng Muze's glass of water. Her face was flushed red in embarrassment, and her normally bright eyes were dangerously narrowed.

She wasn't going to tolerate this any longer!

Cheng Muze raised his eyebrows curiously. "What are you going to do?"

Not bothering to tell him, she turned around and pushed the back of her chair against their seats with a loud bang. If looks could kill, the couple would've already buried themselves under her deep rage. Cheng Muze hurriedly grabbed his phone out of his pockets, his fingers hovering on the screen in case anything would happen between them.

Zhou Shaolong and his partner reeled back in surprise and annoyance from the sound. The man had the audacity to wag his fingers in protest, "Shouldn't you watch where you're pushing your seat in?" He turned around to complain. "You almost gave me a heart attack with all those noises!"

"Don't bother, babe," Zhou Shaolong immediately intercepted, placing a hand on his shoulder. "People these days are just equivalents of trash."

"Oh, you're right about that!" Jian Yun agreed, taking a seat in front of them. A sweet and sadistic smile slipped into her lips. At the sight, Zhou Shaolong had stiffened almost immediately. It seemed that her budding relationship with the lawyer had already been destroyed right before both of their eyes. "Who would've thought that I'd meet someone who's willing to go to great lengths just to cheat on their partner?"

"And who the hell are you?" The man rolled his eyes in displeasure. "Missy, if you haven't noticed, there are people sitting here."

She squinted her eyes, sizing up the man right in front of her. He wasn't very tall, and he certainly wasn't as well-built. He looked like someone she could beat in a fight–that was for sure. His skin was soft and tender under the pale lights. He could've been considered handsome if it wasn't for his snotty attitude, which reminded her of a little boy.

Ignoring him, she glanced at Zhou Shaolong. "Attorney Zhou, do you mind if I sit here?"

"I–no, I don't mind." He blinked as he tried to register what was happening. When she had seated herself right in front of them, his face changed from a look of starstruck to horror. The bottom of his lips trembled in fear, and his hold in his glass had weakened immensely. "Jian Yun...didn't you say you were heading home? Why are you here?"

She snorted. "If I wasn't here, how could I have known that I'll just be another 'furniture in the household' just so you could save your face?"

"No! You've misunderstood. That's not what I meant!" His voice stuttered. It was the first time she had ever seen a lawyer so caught off-guard before, and it was definitely a sight to behold. However, instead of feeling satisfied, she became even more annoyed upon staring at his nervous looks.

"Then what else do you mean by that?" Jian Yun motioned to the way Zhou Shaolong had caressed the man's shoulders, and her eyes fell onto the thin hand that was placed on top of the lawyer's crotch. "I'm sorry, did I catch you at a bad time? Should I leave? I mean, you look kind of busy, don't you think?"

As soon as she had stood up and walked over, she could see the scene as clear as day. These two men were kissing and groping one another like a pair of wild dogs. Couldn't they have kept it in their pants and do it in a bedroom instead? And to think that she had dated Zhou Shaolong. Upon seeing how willing he was in disregarding her, the man had left a bad taste on her tongue. She sneered.

At her accusation, Zhou Shaolong immediately retracted his hand and pushed the man to the side. If one would look closer, he could see the beads of sweat just sliding down from his fingertips. "Jian Yun," he stuttered once again. "It's not what you think! Xiao Qian and I..."

Xiao Qian had been shoved so hard that his head almost slammed against the glass window. Stomping his foot onto the ground, he fiercely glared at her–as if she was the one who was trespassing on his territory. "Babe, who is this bint?"

"Stop talking!" Zhou Shaolong hissed. The lawyer was trying to rack his brain in thinking of a more believable excuse to explain his situation, but no matter how hard he had struggled, he came up with nothing. And his boyfriend was digging him an even deeper grave at this point!

Upon seeing her hardened expression, he knew that he had no other choice but to admit his wrongdoings. "Look, okay, maybe I decided to play around the field for a little while, but as soon as I've met you, I realize that I don't like men anymore. Besides, I've already thought about it. Once we're married, I'll step out of the field and peacefully live with you instead. We could have a family–just us against the world."

"What the hell did you just say?" Xiao Qian glowered, straightening his back in indignation. "You bastard! You told me that you're only doing her to get your parents off your back! You said that you wouldn't even touch her–that you'd still come back to me every night! Were you lying to me then? Were you?"

Unable to take him anymore, Zhou Shaolong slapped him right on the face. The man staggered back, collapsing onto the tiled floor. The force was enough to knock him unconscious.

"Enough!" Their commotion had already attracted the attention of almost everyone in the restaurants, and she could see a few people crowding around them in interest.

Jian Yun had never been a fan of being the center of attention, so she immediately lowered her voice. The last thing she needed to add to her list was to cause a massive scandal in a small dessert shop. "Since we've already got that out in the open, why don't we make our status clear once and for all?"

"Look, I really do love you," Zhou Shaolong begged, trying to clasp her hands. "Can't you give me another chance?"

"Look, if you're gay–then that's fine. I've never been against them, but to see you so willing to throw your partner aside just for your own selfish obligations–now, that's sick!" Her eyes had narrowed even more now, and she looked more similar to a snake that was ready to strike. "All I've requested from the start is your honesty–your loyalty, one that I've never really had in the first place!"

"Oh, and you're so perfect?" He slammed his fists onto the table. "You're so pretty, but based on your family situation, do you think any man in his right mind would marry you? Marrying you is like marrying into a burden? One who's as cold and lifeless as the giver herself!"

Instead of getting angry, she smiled. "If that's the case then I guess we've already formed an agreement. Goodbye!"

Just as she was about to leave, Zhou Shaolong anxiously pulled her back. "Look, I'm sorry," he rushed to explain. "I got too winded a few seconds ago, and I wasn't able to keep my mouth shut. I never really minded your...situation. If I did, why would I continue dating you? C'mon, Jian Yun, just give me a chance to make it up to you!"

Jian Yun retracted her hand from his grip and gazed up at him. There was something about her gaze that could even render a general silent. "Attorney Zhou, since you're aware of my mother's situation, then let me make it clear to you, I've never relied on anyone before. And I'm certainly not doing it now," she snapped. "Even if my mother needs some funds, I've always relied on myself–and not anyone else. Even if we do get married, I've never intended to use your money. Never! But now that you've made it clear what you really felt about her, then this relationship is over."

Without another word, she twisted her skirt and strode out of the restaurant.

Cheng Muze followed closely behind her, escaping the curious crowd that was surrounding them. As soon as he stepped out of the shop, his vision was met with neon lights and blinking advertisements. Looking around, he saw Jian Yun standing under the street light. Her head was hung low, and her shoulders had sagged in defeat. The mere sight of her could make anyone's heart ache.

"Are you okay? You look sad." He walked towards her.

"Why should I be sad?" Jian Yun turned to look at him. Her face was calm and free of tears, and the corners of her lips were raised.

"I mean, the boyfriend you've had is actually gay, and he also had the audacity to be out in public with other men in front of you. Plus, you just broke up." He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "Shouldn't you be sad?"

"If you put it like that, it does sound like a devastating story," she agreed before shaking her head. "I'm sad, yes, but it's not because of what you've just said."

"Then why?"

Suddenly, she lowered her head. "I'm sad because my mother likes him so much. I mean, with how much she had lauded him, you'd think that she's the one who's dating him, not me." Jian Yun cracked a smile. "But in his heart, all she is to him is some financial burden that he had to carry. It's just a shame."

"Wait, you dated him because of your mom?" Cheng Muze quickly caught on to her words.

"That's not important anymore." Not wanting to say anything else, she looked up at him. "You called me here on purpose, didn't you?"

"I was afraid you'd be deceived if I wasn't able to let you see it yourself." With a sigh, Cheng Muze tilted this head. "Right, Sister Jian, you know how chaotic the lawyer had been with his relationship. I'd suggest that you'd get checked–you know, just to make sure that you didn't catch anything from him."
