You, CEO’s Secret Wife

C61 Jealous

C61 Jealous

Just as Jian Yun was about to say something else, her phone rang, cutting her off. "Give me a second." She turned her phone over to see that the call was from Cheng Muze. "Hello?" She immediately picked it up, glancing at the clock.

"Sister Jian, are you here yet?" He sounded anxious, and from the beeping sounds in the background, it seemed that he had only grown even busier by each second. "Do you mind coming up now? The meeting's about to start at 9:30."

"But I can't lea–" However, before she could say anything else, he already hung up. The last thing she needed was for any more stories to run the gossip mill, but it seemed that he didn't give her much of a choice on that matter. With a sigh, she rubbed the creases on her forehead, looking a bit stumped about the entirety of her situation.

Seeing as Cheng Muze still hadn't replied, she grabbed the metallic box from her bag and walked out of their department office, ignoring Wu Wenjing's confused gaze. It was now or never.

What Jian Yun didn't expect was to see a man holding a bouquet of roses as soon as she had stepped out of the HR Department. Just as she was about to overstep him and head straight to the elevator, he quickly blocked her path, and the red roses were immediately pushed up to her face. The flowery scent entered her nostrils, and she resisted the urge to sneeze.

"Miss Jian." The man behind the bouquet looked extremely young, probably no more than thirty-years-old. He had a sweet face, and he didn't look all that bad.

"I–I'm sorry. Who are you?" She blinked, surprised that the man knew her name.

At her question, the man blushed even more. "I'm Luo Zihua from the Logistics Department. I've liked you for a long time now, and..." he stuttered, trying to look at anywhere but her face. "You're really pretty. This is for you!" After he finished speaking, Luo Zihua immediately threw the bouquet into her arms and ran off the other direction, not bothering to look back.

It took Jian Yun a minute to register what had just happened. Glancing at the roses in her hands, a stupefied expression masked her face. Although she didn't want to accept the roses, she'd feel bad if she'd just throw them away, especially just after receiving them. Seeing as she didn't have any other choice, she carried the bouquet in her arms and stepped into the elevator.

At this moment, Hui snuck into the HR Manager's office and quickly reported to her, "Sister Bingbing, there must be something important in Jian Yun's bag, because I just saw her taking it up to the 28th floor."

"That shameless bitch!" Xia Bingbing snarled, nearly flipping the table in anger. Her long manicured fingernails tore through the document she was holding as she clenched her jaw. "She must've brought it to seduce Liancheng!"

"Listen to this, there was even a man who delivered flowers to her just now." Hui thought back to the large bouquet the man had been holding before rolling her eyes. "Are those blind or something? If they really want to give flowers, the least they could do is give it to someone who's more deserving of them! Sister Bingbing, you're obviously prettier than Jian Yun!"

"Does the slut think she could easily get what she wants just by hooking up with a few men? Just you wait! I'll drive her out of Ming's so fast that she wouldn't know what hit her." A venomous glint shone in the woman's face as she gripped the edges of her table.

Xia Bingbing had always thought so highly of herself, and when she saw Huo Liancheng, she had fallen for him almost immediately. Not only was he rich, but he was also the most handsome man she had ever seen–in fact, with his perfect background, he was the only man she regarded as her equal. That night in the coffee shop, she had decided to confess her feelings to him. What she didn't expect was for him to coldly reject her and leave her there as if nothing had happened! She had sworn that very day that she would chase him like her life depended on it, and there was no way she was going to give just become some woman decided to have the nerve to stand against her!

This was the second time Jian Yun went to the CEO's office. The first time was when she was planning to ask for her glasses back, only to be greeted with a wide empty space. This time, the sight that had greeted her wasn't any different. In fact, besides Huo Liancheng himself, Cheng Muze's office was the only one that was there. She couldn't help but wonder the weight of Huo Liancheng's job to have just one assistant to take care of all his company matters.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she glanced at the CEO's office then at Cheng Muze. There were stacks of paper piling up on his desk, and he seemed to be focused on the documents he was transcribing into his computer. Jian Yun blanched at the sight. He certainly wasn't lying when he said he was busy. Seeing this, she walked towards him and placed the box on his desk.

Cheng Muze jumped from his seat, looking as if he was seeing her for the first time. He adjusted the rim of his glasses. "I didn't even hear you walk in! You scared the crap out of me." He exhaled, patting his chest.

Placing a finger on her lips, she hissed, "Shh! The honeysuckle flowers are here. I should leave."

Although Jian Yun's impression of Huo Liancheng had improved a little from their last interaction, Luo Yanyan's words had made her a bit uncomfortable about their newfound friendship. A part of her was afraid that if she saw him right now, her friend's prediction would come to life–that their friendship would be a transaction, one that she had no chance of partaking in. As soon as she delivered the items, she quickly turned her head and prepared to leave the 28th floor. Being here was already enough to make her nervous.

"Why are you in such a hurry to leave? Yo! Are these for you? Who gave them?" Cheng Muze placed the documents back on his desk. Seeing the large bouquet in her arms, he took advantage of her distractedness and pulled out the card on the top. His eyebrows twitched, and he grinned. "From Luo Zihua? Who's that? Fourth Bro! It seems like you got some competition here!"

"Hey!" The tips of her ears were tinged red as he said the last sentence. She tried to snatch the card from his fingertips, but he raised them high enough that her jumps were to no avail. Stomping her foot in frustration, she scowled.

However, just as Jian Yun was about to say something else, the door to the CEO's office had creaked open. All the anger scouring through her veins vanished and she immediately retreated into the elevator. The hairs at the back of her neck stood. Screw the flowers!

"Sister Jian, your flowers!" Cheng Muze watched, amused by her flustered expression.

"I don't want it! It's yours!" Seeing as he still hadn't stepped out of his office, she breathed a sigh of relief and closed the elevator, without looking back.

In the huge office, Cheng Muze glanced at Huo Liancheng's darkened expression and bit back a laugh. "Fourth Bro, why is it that every time Sister Jian sees you, she runs off like a mouse?" He tutted, teasing him. "Did you do something to scare her? That really is no way to get a girl."

Huo Liancheng didn't say anything else. Instead, he stretched out his hand and motioned to the bouquet. When Cheng Muze handed it to him, he immediately disposed of them, narrowing his eyes in displeasure. However, before he could say anything else, the man was quickly handed a metallic box.

"Fourth Brother, Sister Jian brought this for you," Cheng Muze stated.

With a nod, he grabbed the box and went straight into his office.

Sitting on his chair, Huo Liancheng fiddled with the leaf-shaped box. The cold metal grazed against his fingertips, and when he lifted the lid, a sweet scent floated through the small opening. A small smile slipped into his lips, and he quickly picked up his phone.

When Jian Yun had finally returned to the HR Department, her cheeks were flushed, and her knees were quaking. 'Why do you have to run away? What's wrong with you?' She thought to herself as she struggled to cool herself down. It wasn't as if she had just committed a grave offense. All she had done was follow out Cheng Muze's orders. There was nothing wrong with that! She gritted her teeth, resisting the urge to pull her hair in frustration. Oh well. It wasn't as if she could do anything about it now.

When she returned to her desk, she noticed that her phone had a new message from Huo Liancheng. Guilt crept up into her chest as she clicked it open.

"The flowers were ugly. You're not allowed to accept any more flowers from him, or from any other man."

Jian Yun rolled her eyes. "It isn't any of your business!"

Huo Liancheng stayed silent after that. However, just as she was about to return to work, she was immediately bombarded with several emojis that Wu Wenjing had sent over in quick succession. "Did someone just give you flowers?" Once she had caught Jian Yun's attention, she quickly asked.

"Yeah, but I don't even know him."

"Hm, a lot of our co-workers are asking about you, you know. They wanted to know whether you have a boyfriend or not," Wu Wenjing replied. "In fact, some of them even asked me for your number, but I didn't give it to them."

"Please don't." Suddenly, a thought occurred to Jian Yun. "Wait! Do you still have Brother Pu's number? The one from Shinhwa Club?"

"Why do you want to know?"
