You, CEO’s Secret Wife

C71 Do You Want to Play with Me?

C71 Do You Want to Play with Me?

Jian Yun's eyes widened. On the screen was the same video that had been captured on the night of the party. Their shadowed figures flickered in the backgrounds, and she could feel her cheeks reddening in an instant. From afar, she could hear her own coquettish voice ringing from the background. "My feet hurt! Carry me."

Distracted, she didn't even hear Zhou Shaolong when he had picked up the phone. "Yun?" He had prompted once again. "Are you done?"

Upon hearing his voice, Huo Liancheng's eyes narrowed dangerously.

"Hi, yes, I just got off work." Her eyes were still trained on the screen waving right in front of her. Although the video had been paused, their shadows were still there–this time stopping on the part where he had already carried her. She stared at it with bated breath, knowing full well what was at stake here.

"Awesome, I'll go pick you up," he said excitedly. "We can eat first then watch a movie. I heard that Hot Pot Hero has been a hit, so we could watch that later."

Jian Yun was about to say something else when Huo Liancheng played the video again. This time, the video moved to the part where she had placed a big fat kiss on him, and she froze. Gritting her teeth, she shot him a glare and turned back to her phone. "I'm so sorry," she immediately apologized. "I'm not feeling well today. I don't think I'll be able to go with you."

The moment the words slipped past her lips, a glint appeared in his eyes.

"What's wrong? Everything looked fine when I had visited." Zhou Shaolong sounded very disappointed on the line. It seemed that he was already grasping on straws in waiting for the chance to date her. When he didn't hear her response, he quickly added, "Should I pick you up and take you to the hospital?"

"There's really no need. I'll just head home and get some rest." She pursed her lips. "I'm sure I'll be fine tomorrow."

"Alright," he conceded after much hesitation. "How about we watch a movie tomorrow night?"

"We can talk about it tomorrow." Seeing the impatience in Huo Liancheng's face, she quickly said her goodbyes and hung up the phone. To her relief, the video had stopped playing, and her flirty voice had silenced. Jerk!

"Your mother is really going for him, isn't she?" Although his face didn't reveal any emotion, his voice was cold enough to freeze the entire city.

Ignoring his words, Jian Yun grabbed her phone and place it back into her pocket. "Can I go now?"

However, before she could move, Huo Liancheng stepped forward. "Have you eaten dinner?"

"What do you think?" She glared at him with resentment brewing in her gaze. If it wasn't for him, not only would she have already eaten her dinner, but she would've also watched a movie. If her mother would hear about this now, the old woman would probably be yelling at her as to why her own daughter would reject one of her prospects so suddenly. Just the thought of it made her even more exhausted.

"I also haven't eaten." Ignoring the spitefulness of her tone, he grabbed her hand and led her towards the round table at the lounge. The lights were dim in the area, and it was a perfect break from the hard-lined structure of the office. At the back were glass windows displaying the wide cityscape, a view that she couldn't help but admire.

Jian Yun furrowed her eyebrows. "So?"

"Eat with me," he invited naturally.

Cheng Muze grinned as he followed them into the lounge and took the items out of his bag. There were around seven to eight thermal boxes laid out in front of them. Huo Liancheng helped open up their lids and displayed them across the table. At the sight of their delectable goodness, her stomach couldn't help but growl in approval, but even then, she still wouldn't allow herself to give in.

"And why should I eat with you?" Jian Yun scowled, twisting on her seat as she struggled to break away from his hold. However, it was to no avail.

Huo Liancheng ignored her words and glanced at Cheng Muze who was already sitting down and preparing himself to eat up. "What are you still doing here?"

"I'm going to eat." Cheng Muze shrugged.

"Eat on your own when you head back."

"Fourth Brother, you can't be that heartless." Cheng Muze pouted in protest, waving his arms in exasperation. He widened his eyes as he tried to make himself more pitiful. "I drove all the way back here to get it for you, and look! I'm so hungry that my bones are already sticking out. Do you really have no mercy?"

"Do you have any objections?" Huo Liancheng squinted his eyes.

Seeing the darkness of his face, Cheng Muze's hunger had vanished. He placed his chopsticks back on the table and waved at them. "No objections," he quickly said. His own hunger could suck it for a while. After all, pissing Huo Liancheng off was a far more lethal offense than delaying his dinner for a couple of minutes. "Goodbye Fourth Bro, Sister Jian!"

Jian Yun gazed at his retreating figure before glancing back at Huo Liancheng. "Why does he call you Fourth Brother?"

"Suddenly so interested in my affairs?" A small smile played on his lips.

"I was just asking, that's all!" She quickly turned away as her cheeks warmed from his insinuation. There was something about his relaxed features that made the experience even more unnerving. Even though she despised him, she had to admit that he was good-looking–sometimes even too good-looking for her taste. Plus, to see some of his indifference fading as they speak, made his face all the more lethal for her.

Huo Liancheng didn't look like he minded as he pushed the container towards her. "My grandmother and his grandmother were sisters."

'He could've just said that they were cousins. He didn't have to make me connect the dots,' she thought, shaking her head. Suddenly, a thought occurred to her.

"Then why would he help you?" In actuality, Jian Yun initially wanted to ask about Huo Liancheng–why he had left his very successful company to be a professional manager, and why he would bring his cousin along with him. Besides, they were already well-off, so why go through all these lengths to prove himself? Hadn't they already proven himself enough?

And being related to the Huo Family, Cheng Muze definitely had a good background himself, so why would he be willing to be Huo Liancheng's special assistant? It just didn't make any sense.

"You're only allowed to ask a question a day." Poking her nose, he frowned. "Why do you keep asking about Cheng Muze? Are you more interested in him than me?"

Immediately, she shrunk back into her seat and quieted down.

Upon hearing the sourness of his voice, Jian Yun found herself at a loss for words. As she stared at the way they were sitting together with all these lunch boxes surrounding them, she could tell that their relationship wasn't as distant as it had been. They had gone a long way from the time she had insulted him and kicked him in the shins. From a different standpoint, she might've even assumed that they were...friends.

That was after everything she had done to injure him. A part of her couldn't help but wonder if Huo Liancheng was a masochist.

"Aren't you hungry?" Seeing her tilting her head in a daze, he couldn't help but poke her on the forehead in amusement.

Jian Yun blinked. Snapping back into reverie, she stared at the bowl of rice sitting right in front of her. "There's too much. I might not be able to finish it," she slowly said, subconsciously scooping some of the rice up with her spoon.

Knowing that she had no other choice, she slowly relaxed in her seat. After all, she had already planned not to eat in her apartment tonight, so wasn't this the same thing?

"You can give it to me." Huo Liancheng naturally handed his bowl to her, and she followed his orders.

As she did, a strange feeling bubbled in her stomach, and when she looked at the table, that feeling had intensified even more.

The dishes on the table–red braised lamp, Dong Quai soup, fried beef, stir-fried vegetables, egg flower soup–all of them made her even more conscious than she should be.

Back at home, whenever she had her period, her mother would cook up all these dishes for her to eat. The beef and lamb were good in replenishing her blood, the Dong Quai soup was there to give her additional strength, and the brewed egg provided warmth for her body. All of them were exceptionally good and healthy for her menstrual cycle, and at the sight, she couldn't help but feel a little conflicted.

Had Huo Liancheng asked someone to cook these for her?

Her heart stirred in her chest. Although she continued eating, she still couldn't find herself to look up at him.

"Why aren't you eating? Don't you like it?" He frowned, noticing her silence.

There was complete silence before she finally spoke up, "Why are you doing this?"

"What did I do?" He blinked. Seeing that she still wasn't moving, he personally placed a few strips of beef onto her bowl, to which she didn't reject.

Jian Yun stared at her bowl for a long time. "Are you trying to play with me?"
