Exhausted, he walked down the hill and sat on the riverbank, begging for help from the villagers. A cowherd woman in the village fed Sakyamuni with milk boiled in a bowl, quickly restoring him to health. When Buddhism flourished, in memory of this event, it was established that this was the day when the people of ancient India "fasted" and gave alms to the poor.    

    

Since Eastern Han Buddhism was introduced into China, alimony in the 8th month of December has gradually become a custom of cooking "rice porridge". Some of the Buddhist temples in China boil "sakamuni porridge", commemorating the Nilian River cowherd woman to help the story of Sakyamuni.    

    

With the prosperity of Buddhism, rice porridge has also become popular among the people. The porridge of the rich families was cooked with dozens of different kinds of rice and beans, even giving it to friends and family. The poor should also boil a pot of porridge with millet and red dates on this day.    

    

Legend has it that Laba will be poorer next year if he doesn't eat porridge.
